I have been waiting for this cookbook and I must say that I was not disappointed!!!!! This is the best cookbook that I have ever purchased!!!! The recipes are easy to follow and I made my first Cauliflower Pizza tonight!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!! This was one of the best recipes I have ever tasted!!!!I posted a photo of the last Alice left... In fact, my boyfriend stopped by after work because i was raving about how great the Pizza tasted. Her recipes are so easy to follow !!!!! Can’t wait to try some of her breakfast recipes in the morning!!!!!

I didn’t expect to read this book in one sitting. It was so familiar because I use a lot of the herbs, spices and pinches of goodness where I can. The recipes sound great and I must try a few of them. Like Laila, I use Turmeric in as many dishes as I can. I have followed her on Chopped. She is a great cook and is professional about whatever project she seems to be working on. I truly enjoyed her book. Continue to succeed on this book and any other endeavor you take on.

I love this cookbook! Laila’s Louisiana heritage shows through in a delightful way. I saw her Jumbalaya recipe in a newspaper and tried it. It was wonderful! I then bought her book. Her Gumbo was great. It was my first time to make a rue and it worked fine. I love her brown rice recipe. It turned out perfectly. Her spice mixes are handy and compliment her recipes along with everyday fare you may fix. I love that she puts nutrition at the forefront of what she does. You do not have to sacrifice deliciousness with her recipes just because they are nutritious. Her tips on nutrition are of great value. If you enjoy cooking and yummy results you will enjoy this book.

This cookbook is quickly becoming my favorite cookbook. So far I've made the green salsa, roasted tomato salsa, fresh ranch non dairy dip, oven fried wings and basic slaw..... everything has been delicious and my husband approves too. Looking forward to making maca muffins and live pickles next.

Item arrived in great condition. The recipes are really great, and easy to make. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking to eat healthier foods! I have incorporated more vegetables into my cooking, and decreased the amount of carb loaded foods. I have seen a significant difference in my energy levels. Also, makes a great gift.

Great recipes, easy to follow, tasty and healthy. It doesn't matter if it's healthy if it does not taste good. She also has great health information interspersed and swap outs for different ingredients you may have around the house. Got the kindle version too. Already mad 4 of the recipes in 2 weeks. yumm

I love these recipes! My favorite recipe so far is the "Chicken and Egg Breakfast Tacos". Delicious! Laila understands food. Better yet...she understands how important comfort food is to our daily lives. So far, there's not one recipe that I don't love. It's a must-have for your kitchen.

About the Author

Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) immortalized the site of his birth—Egdon Heath, in Dorset, near Dorchester—in his writing. An extremely productive novelist, Hardy published an important book every year or two. In 1896, disturbed by the public outcry over the unconventional subjects of his two greatest novels—Tess of the D’Urbervilles and Jude the Obscure—he announced that he was giving up fiction and afterward produced only poetry. In later years, he received many honors. He was buried in Poet’s Corner, in Westminster Abbey. It's a soap opera and was written as a serial for a newspaper. It was not written all at once before publication and it shows. A young man gets drunk and sells his wife and baby to a sailor. He goes to Casterbridge and becomes a businessman and then the mayor for a year. In the meantime he meets another woman and has an affair with her but does not marry her because he does not know what happened to his wife. Then about 18 years later, the wife and child show up, the sailor having died a sea. He decides that he should re-marry his wife so no one would know of the scandal. He meets a young man from Scotland who is perfect in every way and hires him as his business manager at his corn business. Then his wife dies. The daughter does not know what happened when she was a baby and think of Henchard (that's his name) as her stepfather. However when his wife died, he told her the truth, only to discover that his own child had died and the daughter he thought was his was actually the daughter of the dead sailor. Then he got mad at Donald, the young Scot, and fired him. Then his old girlfriend showed up and wanted to marry him. She had inherited money, lots of it, from an aunt and was now rich. He put her off a day too long and she saw Donald and it was love at first sight. So Donald and Lucetta, Henchard's old girlfriend got married, even though the daughter, Elizabeth, had hoped to marry him. Then all the scandal came to light about the sale of the wife and about the affair and Lucetta was so upset that she died. Meanwhile the sailor wasn't dead at all and he came back and looked for his daughter Elizabeth. And on, and on, and on, and on. I'm sure Hardy would be surprised to find out that people are still reading his soap opera. It would make a good serialized tv soap opera, and I would like to see the movie, but I wouldn't call it classic literature -- more like pulp fiction. A lot of it is boring.

This book is a classic and should be read by anyone who has a love for words.....you will be pressing so many words to get definitions on your kindle that it could almost be distracting....but......but the vocabulary is so delicious that you must know the meaning of the words.....and so your kindle helps you......what a plus this is!!!The actual story revolves around relationships in England during a time of very specified courting behavior that we would find amusing today...but stick with it. It is not an easy beginning read, nor is it possible to get the flow of the book after a few chapters. Remember this was a time when vocabulary embellished every sentence, description, thought, movement. A mere kiss meant a bold statement of presumed matrimony....so different from today...right?The characters are all farmers and you learn what a difficult and rewarding life this could be for some one under their circumstances. There are the usual twists and turns in the book that keep you busy and reluctant to stop reading...so enjoy....enjoy...and be amazed how we lost so many interesting words and descriptions to mediocre literature.

Bathsheba Everdene is a self-willed and independent young woman who inherits her uncle's farm. An assertive and confident nature in a woman is a novelty in the rural parish of Weatherbury and Bathsheba soon attracts three very different admirers.The only other book I've read by Thomas Hardy is Tess of the D'Urbervilles which I enjoyed because Tess was a well-rounded female character which I feel is a rare find in most books. Bathsheba too, is a well developed character and the reader gets to know her intimately as she comes of age in this sometimes funny and other times tragic love story.Hardy is prone to waffling especially when describing architecture or milieus so the reader must be patient. The first half of the book is quite slow and I was tempted to give up on the book but the second half more than makes up for it.The second half is tense and builds up to an unexpected violent scene and while the ending is predictable it is also satisfying. I recommend this book to those who enjoyed Tess of the D'Urbervilles.

This is not a literary review of the novel, but of the physical copy we received. My husband has a group of movie-going buddies who decided to read the novel and then watch both versions of the movie adaptations. Long wait for library copies, no copies in the used book stores in town; since he's a slow reader, we decided to go with the copy that would arrive the fastest and went to Amazon.It's obviously a print-on-demand (printed June 18, arrived at our door June 20). I have no problem with the concept, in fact it seems like a dream come true to a book lover. But whywhywhy is it such a terrible job? A solid block of print from front to back; chapter headings and "conclusion" are all on the same lines with the text. Tiny margins, and the binding so tight it will obviously have to be broken in order to read the pages in the center of the book. I don't know how many mistakes, such as spelling and missed words, there are -- I'll come back here if there are a lot of them. In fact, I'll ask for our money back. But hopefully it will be adequate for Mr. K's needs. No matter what, it goes directly into the recycling bin when he's done. If he loves it we'll buy another copy.Print-on-demand: bah, humbug.

I love the book, it's just this publication I hate. There are absolutely no paragraphs and plenty of typos. The pages are tall and wide. These combined elements make this edition very difficult to read. The last page reads "made in Middletown, DE, 9/11/2015." The day after I bought this in Amazon. I think the publisher (not named anywhere in the book) printed this off of Google or something.

Although I generally believe that the one story a writer shouldn't write is their own, Agatha Christie's autobiography is the happy exception to this rule.The famous mystery writer takes much of the mystery out of how she became a writer telling a straightforward story of a fairy-tale childhood that abruptly changed into a grown-up existence of uncertainty, hard-work, determination, pluck and verve. She admits to less ambition than necessity dictated by money and marriage woes.Christie is a natural storyteller but she is far too polite to admit it outright. Instead, she brings the same hands-off style to her own story as she does to the main characters in her mystery books: that of being caught up in the circumstances of events rather than being driven by them.Her life story gently unfolds complemented by a dry and self-effacing wit. Christie blends in tidbits of her writing life, including her early efforts, story and character inspirations, why her books are so short, her writing style and routine and her dealings with editors and publishing houses, into the mostly personal narrative.While it may be a mystery as to whether Christie created or responded to opportunities, there's no mystery that once those opportunities presented themselves Christie seized them and rode them spectacularly to fame and fortune.

Of all the memoir/autobiography's I've read in the last YEAR - this one is the TOP FAVORITE. Ok, that might be because I'm a writer as well - and love to read about how other writer's go about the craft. But, writing aside - the woman has sold more books that any other novelist - OF ALL TIME. Her books are the most widely published behind Shakespeare and the Bible. I mean for that reason alone - you'd want to find out more about her. And for those of you who love Romance...after her first husband left her for another woman- she found love later in life with a much younger man and was married to him for the rest of her life! Happy Marriage late in life, the most popular novelist ever - and a wonderful writer of things such as what was happening in London after the war. This is a history book - a romance, and a 'how to be a writer' book. I absolutely LOVED it.

First, let me say that Agatha Christie's autobiography is one of my all-time favorite books. That's why I purchased the Kindle version when I already own a hard copy.Imagine my disappointment, then, as I read along, the narrative suddenly makes no sense. I'm not talking about the occasional misprint, those are to be expected. No, whole paragraphs and sections are simply gone. Is this an abridged version? Sometimes the text is neatly excised, and unless you knew what should have been there, you'd never miss it. Other times it is jarring. For example, Mrs. Christie is reflecting on the pleasures of the suqs in Bagdhad, and the next page drops into the middle of a conversation about metaphysics with some unnamed person. (Whom frantic searches of my hard copy revealed to be Maurice Vickers.) Now, I don't know about most, but I need context before I can face a discussion of metaphysics on my good days - and to find myself suddenly confronted with the meaty middle of a treatise on the philosophical implications of Time and Infinity, without a fair warning or time to prepare myself, was a terrible shock to the system. Referencing the hard copy, and filling in the missing paragraphs, made the discussion not only palatable, but deeply interesting and even profound.I don't how many other such errors there are. I do know that as I read a book with which I am fairly familiar, I often felt that some things were missing, and a superficial comparison of the Kindle and hard copies confirmed that.Agatha Christie's autobiography is an engrossing journey into the mind of an original and entertaining woman. Its little forays into Victoriana, such as the proper books for children to read, or suitable names for cooks, house maids and parlourmaids, (and why they weren't the same), are charming and fascinating. Her reminiscences of her times on archaeological digs in the middle east are compelling. It's more than worth reading - just not in the Kindle version.

A wonderful account in her own words, Agatha Christie's autobiography will keep the reader interested in knowing a little bit more about her life as wife, mother, and author. The story of her life is told seemingly effortlessly by Agatha. Agatha Christie's earliest memories of home, childhood,and the importance of family and place will keep the reader from wanting to put this book down. I really enjoyed this book. Although, I didn't realize it was a true story until the end. I wish I had realized that sooner. The only negative thing I can say is that I wish the writer didn't jump from one person to the next from one sentence to the next. It was a little confusing at times. Overall it was a great book that I would recommend to anyone who likes these type of reads. I can't even begin to imagine something like this happening to anyone yet it happens every day. My heart breaks for those who have endured it. Its hard to believe that the scenarios in this book actually took place and humans can treat other humans in such a way. Yet it happened and is continuing to happen today. I'm so happy Tammy found true love and acceptance with yarima and family. Good luck to you all and I hope your foundation is a huge success. I did not expect to read the horrible details that are described throughout the book. i know that sex trafficing is real and should not be down played, however some parts of this were so disgusting and outlandish that I felt sick to my stomach.I did however really like the ending.Overall a good book just be prepared to read some truely nausiating accounts.

I believe the narrative is a compendium of experiences, perhaps adjusted to flow. I saw nothing unbelievable or impossible. Filtered through various cultural filters, but essentially intact. Nothing rang false. You cannot always trust that alone, but this isn't the first hostage/slave case in the world and it sounds near enough.Although there are enormous perils in trying to change a culture from the outside, there is no obvious risk in stopping human trafficking. I don't remember the stats off the top of my head, but it's in the tens of millions per year in the US alone, probably as many from Europe and ten times the combined total from the former Soviet Union.And not all of it is to the Middle East. Prosecutions for slave ownership have taken place in Britain, America and Germany, probably other nations as well. No nation is innocent. A facet outside the remit of the story, but an important one. The sorts of things in this book aren't limited to "them over there".Finally, the ending. Psychologists describe all kinds of weird dynamics in these sorts of cases - power reversal, Stockholm Syndrome, PTSD, brain rewiring, dissociative disorders, and other techniques the brain has for handling cognitive dissonance. It is not possible to say from the outside that the ending was happy, and in this powder-keg of a world, it isn't even possible to say if there could ever have been an ending at all. It sounds utterly dysfunctional, but so is everything else.

I don't know if this is fact or fiction...or maybe a little of both. I am only commenting on the story as it reads and not on the validity of weather or not it's factual.As the story starts out, our h is your typical teen; quite naive and thinks she is invincible. Nothing bad would ever happen to her, right? That only happens to other people. She gets kidnapped into the human trafficking trade. She is scared and alone and reacts as such.The problem I have with this story, in general terms, is that the things that happen to one girl throughout the story just seem to build and build and become so over the top that they just become unbelievable and almost comical.Spoiler alert!Huge spoiler alert!!The ending just made me ANGRY!She finally escapes, runs into one of her regulars from the brothel that she thinks she's in love with, and asks him to take her to the American embassy. He's so angry that she would rather go to the embassy than to stay with him, that he rapes her and then takes her back to the brothel where he knows how horribly she is treated and is also aware that her life is in grave danger there. Great guy, huh? Then later on, he does rescue her when he finds out that she is going to be put to death and then puts her through a test to see if she really loves him or not. She passes the test and so he marries her and she is giddy with happiness. Disgusting! These are not the actions of a man who truly loves a woman!

The 'Pros': This book is a cold hard look at what could and sadly does happen, and all too easily and innocently. This is the ultimate girl next door has been kidnapped story. Often times we see news items about a person that has vanished and presumed dead...the atrocities that come to light in this book show that in some cases, being dead would be better. The book goes into detail about what happens to the victims of human trafficking. And it's hard to read at times and very sad, yet work reading for the hideous truth that never occurs to most people. And, just how easy it is to become a statistic. Youthful people always think they are bulletproof, this book made me remember some stupid decisions I made and how fortunate I am.The 'Cons'...for a book based on fact, this book has the most insulting ending...pure fantasy; was a let down.Final Verdict: Worth reading even for all women/parents for the value of good judgement and the 'what if's we never new existed.

I bought this book believing that it was nonfiction. It clearly is fiction. I was looking for factual information about human trafficking. I think that the book is a disservice to individuals who are trafficked. It trivialized their plight. Unlike some of the other one star reviewers, I read the entire book and I did not think it was intentionally written as pornography. It seems clear to me that many reviewers were looking for factual information. It is unfortunate that the author chose to present information about this very important topic intertwined with a completely unbelievable story that does not reflect the life experiences or outcomes of most victims of human trafficking. I had high hopes for this book. I was very disappointed.

This is the best book written on cults I have ever read. I especially like the personal stories from former members. This book shows how easy it is for a charismatic person to take a large group of people down an evil road. I would expect some the members from this cult to get on here and try to discredit the book but truth is on the authors side. This book should be required reading for any psychology student. If I could give it 10 stars I would.

I found the book quite interesting but it did not hold me spellbound. It makes you wonder how these cults can be tolerated and how people can stay with them. But it also explains WHY they stay because they know nothing else and can not support themselves.

Easy to read book about a subject Christians should know about.

I am Terry Purvis, Mayor of Fouke Arkansas. I lived this nightmare in our City till the end of Alamo. This book accurately documents the horrors of this cult and the effects on the lives of the children of the cult. Great job Mrs Schriver, very recommended reading.

Repetetive and redundant. Accurately describes the second generation kids, but leaves out the first generation kids. How do I know? Because I am a first-generation kid! I was born and raised in this cult and I feel like my generation was completely and totally overlooked n this book. We were starved, beaten, raped and used for slave labor to build Tony Alamo's empire..... We didn't have any support when we got out unlike the kids who were taken in the raid. Many of the first generation "kids" suffer horribly with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.... But there's not much said about us. Anyway, I reluctantly tried to read this book and I was really disappointed. I found it to be very repetitive and not at all interesting. I couldn't even get thru the whole thing.

I purchased this book at a signing in my town. Debby was very personable, and I wish I could've spent more time talking with her.The children involved in the Alamo Christian Ministries were victims of a multitude of crimes throughout their lives. The author depicted their feelings and thoughts very well. It's truly deplorable that cults exist in this day and age.

It took me a while, but I finally realized the best way to beat diabetes at its own game was to eat more veggies. While I haven't fully embraced vegetarianism, I have taken to many of the recipes here because they are flavorful, adaptable and well-balanced. Variety is important to keep one's mouth happy, and many of these recipes fit that bill. What is so nice about these recipes is that 1) many require only 4 ingredients which makes them easy to do; 2) they taste good and are easy to prepare; 3) they try to balance out the carbs, proteins and fats we're all trying to balance to keep refueling the ol' engine to keep it running longer. I like the variety of dishes that use mushrooms and beans to provide the protein and these give me options to try when I get into a rut.I've lost weight, have energy and my blood glucose levels are right where they need to be. My blood pressure and cholesterol levels are better than ever. And I don't really think of this as a diet or a phase-- I really can eat these dishes and feel good. I've made a few for family events and they're hits and I have at least one dish I can dig into. While I'm not really a vegetarian since I do eat chicken and fish, I'm finding that I really enjoy eating these vegetarian dishes and trying out some meals I normally wouldn't have tried. With these, I'm healthier and more satisfied.

I was expecting to see more recipes that had a better carbohydrate to protein ratio in this cookbook. I was surprised to see recipes that were as much as 90% Carb to 10% protein - not good. There are a couple of recipes that look really interesting, but most I feel like have seen before in other books.

My doctor won't let me use this book because it has so many carbs in the recipes. This is no book for even me a borderline diabetic. I can't eat pasta, bread, sugar flour etc and this book as all of that in it :(

What a great cookbook! I bought this recently because my husband was told that he is pre-diabetic. We have been vegetarians for about 20 years and we do eat a lot of carbs (unfortunately). This cookbook is wonderful. Every recipe that I have tried so far has been super flavorful and you don't even miss the reduced carbs. All of the ingredients are things you can find in your local supermarket- no specialty high end markets needed. I only wish there was a photo for every recipe! I am so pleased with this book. The recipes are truly yummy.

I've tried many of the recipes in this book and they were all good. It's really helpful to have a book like this when you run out of meal ideas and want something a little different.

I needed a vegetarian book, due to kidney problems complicated by diabetes. This was perfect. I have already made a soup and a stir-fry. Plan to make a pasta this weekend. simple, quick, and tasty. right up my alley these days!

Lots of good, easy-to-follow recipes. I'm new a vegetarian cooking and this has some great dishes. I feel like the recipes are original--not ones I could have found with an easy Google search or two.

I've only made a couple of the recipes so far, but I've browsed through the whole book and I find it very interesting and helpful for someone who is pre-diabetic and trying to stay out of trouble :)
