The Art of the Possibility is an uplifting little book about thinking practices that allow you to move away from "the world of measurement" into "the world of possibility". The book is full of positive stories to attempt to change your perspective in life. The stories are fun, yet the practices weren't always very concrete. It was an easy read, yet it wasn't a book that gave me a major AHA! moment. The book is about 200 pages, written in 12 chapters for 12 different practices. Most of the practices are perspective-practices that try to trigger you into a different way of thinking about yourself and about the world. For example, the practice of "Giving an A" is the practice that asks to always look at people from their potential perspective and avoid judging them directly. Always give an A to people... think the best of them and that will get out the best of them. All other practices are similar. I find them useful, yet at times native. However, they aren't very concrete and they all kinda relate is seeing the world from the perspective of... possibility.

"Draw a different frame around the same set of circumstances and new pathways come into view," say authors Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander in their book The Art of Possibility: Transforming Professional and Personal Life. This brought to mind one of my favorite quotes by the late Wayne Dyer, ""If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." I like this philosophy, and I wanted to read more. The Art of Possibility is full of examples to emphasize that life works better when you have a positive mental outlook. The authors tell a story of two shoe factory salesmen exploring new markets in Africa. After assessing the situation, both send telegrams:SITUATION HOPELESS. STOP. NO ONE WEARS SHOES.GLORIOUS BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY. STOP. THEY HAVE NO SHOES."The one who sees no shoes, all the evidence points to hopelessness. To his colleague, the same conditions point to abundance and possibility," say the Zanders. Through easy to understand examples like this the authors drive home their point. I also liked the stories the Zanders share from their professions. Benjamin Zander is the conductor of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. Rosamund Stone Zander (nickname of "Roz" in the book) has a private practice in family therapy. The Art of Possibility is more than just pie in the sky optimism. The Zanders recommend a realistic approach to negative thoughts and feelings. Their approach "doesn’t mean you should drown out your negative feelings or pretend you like what you really can’t stand. It doesn’t mean you should work to achieve some 'higher plane of existence' so you can 'transcend negativity'," they feel. "It simply means, being present without resistance: being present to what is happening and present to your reactions, no matter how intense. The capacity to be present to everything that is happening, without resistance, creates possibility."Reading the book led me to challenge some of my limiting beliefs. "We can replace the narratives that hold us back by inventing wiser stories, free from childish fears, and in doing so, disperse long-held psychological stumbling blocks," say the Zanders. Perhaps our interpretations of the events in our lives do not match reality. "We see a map of the world, not the world itself," the authors feel.

This is a practice guide for being excellent, for being a leader wherever you are, and for living a satisfying professional and personal life. Practical, detailed illustrations of a dozen or so different practices, each of which could transform my work relationships. I'm really glad to have read this book, and expect to keep it as a reference, since the practices take some time to learn.

I find that much of the book ties to some previous ideas by famous poets and philosophers. I dwell in Possibility – (466)BY EMILY DICKINSONI dwell in Possibility –A fairer House than Prose –More numerous of Windows –Superior – for Doors –Of Chambers as the Cedars –Impregnable of eye –And for an everlasting RoofThe Gambrels of the Sky –Of Visitors – the fairest –For Occupation – This –The spreading wide my narrow HandsTo gather Paradise –And John Keats idea of Negative Capability. Negative capability is a term that has been used by poets and philosophers to describe the ability of the individual to perceive, think, and operate beyond any presupposition of a predetermined capacity of the human being."What is now proved was only once imagined." - William BlakeAnd Walt Whitman - “I am large. I contain multitudes.”Just an observation.

Wow! This book would transform your worldview for the better. The tools and practices given in this book would make you a better person, leader, friend and spouse. They will open you up to the world of possibility, enhance your life and relationships for the better.invest in yourself today! You will be glad you did.The book you don't read, won't help. This is a book to review annually. It's that good.Thank you, Ben and Rose for this gift.

This is one of my top 5 all time favorite and most helpful books. Not only does it impact the working world it also positively affects personal relationships through seeing the potential that exists everywhere. It is not a bunch of vapid platitudes, but every suggestion is explained with real world examples that are truly helpful and that would also work for most readers. My favorites are re-framing mistakes to "How Fascinating" and also to seeing beyond downward spiral thinking as well as understanding the 2 selves many of us possess, and tapping into the central self. I love the content of this book so much that I've gifted it to about a dozen people in the last few months.

#302 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

My baby loves this book, I just wish the flaps were a little more resilient - one was torn off within the first day.

My baby loves this book! She's 7 months and we do the "where's baby?" "There she is!!" and she loves that so I thought teaching her where and what other things were through book would be a hit and it was! The flaps are kind of hard to get up (especially if you're a nail biter like I am) the first time you lift them but after that they don't go back down all the way and sort of stay lifted like in my photo you can see the baby's bare tummy but you don't before you lift it. Which isn't a big deal at all. There's about 7 pages in this book and I don't mind that because it keeps baby's attention. I did NOT let her lift flaps because she would rip the page. The illustration is nice and I like the variety of children they have in the book for the most part. For $3 I'd buy this book a hundred times!

I have purchased this book many times as a baby shower gift and it always seems to be a big hit. It is a book for only very young children, preschoolers would be very bored with it.This is a lift the flap book though, so it is only for reading with your small child together. Otherwise the flaps will be ripped off on the very first reading. Also, I do not recommend buying this as anything but brand new, even if you're getting it for your own child.

My son loves this book. He constantly finds it and makes me read it again and again and again. ;) He'll be 1 this weekend but he's been loving it for months now. He finds all the flaps easy to open with the exception of the belly button and final flap under the blanket but he finds those the most rewarding. He truly enjoys this book. Smiles and claps every time!

Such a sweet book ! I really think it will help her learn where her body parts are and what they are called! The flaps are nice and big so she can do them all by herself. They are a little thin but so far no isues with tears and she's only 1!

I was a little reluctant to order this lift the flap book, as I had gotten my daughter the Valentine's and Easter lift the flap books (of the same brand/ilk/author/etc.), and I wasn't a huge fan of those. The problem with the Easter/Valentine's day ones for me was that the words behind all the flaps almost always started with "No." So, you were reading and encouraging your child to lift the flap and then saying "No!" after they lifted the flap. That could just be me, but it seemed counterintuitive. This book does not have that -- it has body parts for your child to learn and name. So, it's much more encouraging/sensible to me.The only thing I don't love is that the flaps are huge, which oddly makes them less visible and less easy for little fingers to open.

This book has been great for teaching body parts to my 16-month-old daughter. The illustrations keep my baby's attention and the flaps keep her engaged. This is a book every parent should add to their toddler's library. The only reason I'm not giving this 5-stars is because of the flaps. The flaps are made out of thin card stock type paper. If my daughter got ahold of this on her own, she would destroy the book in an instant. Because of this, I keep it separated from her library and pull it out only when we read it together.

We bought this book for my daughter when she was 14 months old. At that time she enjoyed opening the flaps and looking underneath. We also played peek-a-boo with the book a little, which she also enjoyed. She is now 18 months old and still enjoys the book. She now understands much of the questions and points to the what you're supposed to look for on each page. Overall, very enjoyable.Do note, however, that the flaps are quite flimsy. She has bent most of them quite a bit and some are torn as well. I would expect that from most of these types of books at that age and for the price I think is okay. Just don't expect the book to remain in perfect condition with small children playing with it.

My daughter is obsessed with this book. I’ve tried to hide it. I’ve tried hiding it so many times. She always finds it. I did take a star off because she managed to rip off the flap for the last page. My toddler is pretty hulk like so that could just be her.

VBA for Modelers: Developing Decision Support Systems with Microsoft Office Excel - Kindle versionThis is a very good book if we look to the content: good tutorials on VBA, very useful examples, clear explanations. But, unfortunately, it is a bad product. There is no access to the codes, as promissed in the preface:"The companion Web site for this book can be accessed at www.cengagebrain.com. There you will have access to all of the Excel (.xlsx and .xlsm) and other files mentioned in the chapters, including those in the exercises."At such site there is a box for product registering, but the access code (should be similar to PP8XLP3XD528HC, as informed there) was never provided. Also, if we spend a time trying to obtain any support, we only find FAQ technical support and sales support. By trying to register a question, after filling a series of boxes, we must inform the educational institution. As a common customer isn't linked to any institution, in practical terms, it is impossible to register the customer or the book in this site. So, if you like to read extreme small letters (all the codes are small images which size is always the same small, independent of text size you set), if you like to type large codes and if you like to support yourself, then this book is for you.

This text uses an online solution provided by CENGAGE Learning ([...]) for accessing the necessary code samples. Unless you are a student or are willing to lie about it (which you should not do), you will not be able to access the online materials. The website is poorly designed with significant reliability and design issues (frequent timeouts, the inability for non-academic users to create accounts, the inability for non-account holders to submit support requests to customer service, etc).If you are a student then read on. This book is for non-programming business professionals and is intended as a rough and limited introduction to Visual Basic for Applications as it applies to Microsoft Excel in context of business modeling. Most of the book discusses business models for which the author assumes prior knowledge of business management and for which the author suggests his book "Practical Management Science". If you are a professional developer, this book is not for you and will provide limited value. If on the other hand, your a business manager with minimal programming experience and want to enhance your skills and decision making tools, this book will be very helpful to you.

It does what it sets out to do: It gives you beginning knowledge of visual basic in Excel. The biggest problem it that the index is lacking. If you want to find how to format a specific command, you'll be searching through the body of the book for a while because, chances are, what you want isn't in the index. The explanations also need some work. If you've had some programming experience before you can generally figure it out, but sometimes that doesn't help. When the author references that we covered something in a previous chapter, it would help if we were given a page number or section heading. So again, you'll spend a good chunk of time searching for what the writer is referring to rather than coding.

This book is excellent for the person who simply wants to expand their ability to use Excel without becoming a VBA expert. Most books on VBA seem to be written for computer professionals who, for example, seem to want to know about every data type that can be handled before learning anything else. Most of us would rather just learn how to do the things we need to do. This book uses this much more useful route (for ordinary folks)and tells us how to do the basic kind of stuff that we need to do (and that isn't at all obvious how to do): Key topics are accessing data in a range of a worksheet, outputting data to a range, writing a function, etc. etc. It only tells you what you need to know and it explains it all clearly. I had banged my head against a wall before finding this book and it answered all my questions and dissipated all my frustrations. I've recommended it to many of my friends.

I would attempt to return this item but my class has started and I need the book. It looked brand new and was packaged like new, but when I went to attempt to open the envelope for the access card there was nothing in it and the top of the envelope was NOT sealed. This is very frustrating because I'm stuck now without the files needed for the book.

Good book. Lots of good info, but some of the code in the book has some errors (name variable one thing and then call it by a different/longer name in the code) so you can't copy verbatim.

Clear explanations of options in VBA. Explains pitfalls of using certain syntax. Very helpful.

Very interesting book to solve a lot of problems in visual Basic programming .
