As a 5th Grade teacher, I like anything that makes history easier to understand while presenting it in a fun and lively way. These books fit the bill, although I find them more useful for myself. In other words, this series might be too hard for most 10 year olds, but helps their busy teacher decide what they should be taught.

TLDR: This book is a written equivalent of Shia LeBeouf's "Just Do It" motivational speech - something that tries to be inspiring, but is cut with an undercurrent of crazy and unsupportable conjecture. It will resonate with some people and turn others off. Read on for a more detailed explanation.The books is, roughly, divided into three sections: Resistance, Combating Resistance, and Beyond Resistance.The first section was actually really good. It mostly got into what Resistance is - the counterforce to achievement - and the various ways it manifests itself. While not based on any sort of evidence or research, this section lays out an allegorical enemy worthy of an epic struggle.The second section is mostly about how a professional behaves and how this behavior can overcome Resistance. The summary of this section is: show up, do the work, don't get distracted. This was the most prescriptive section of the book, but I'd say it leaned more towards inspiration than prescription. If someone complains that this book is "just common sense", it is probably this section they are referring to.Emboldened by a couple solid sections, the author goes completely off the rails in the third. The book becomes very religious, espouses lousy pop psychology, and makes outlandish claims. If I were to sum this section up, I'd say the author puts forth the idea that the artist is a conduit for some sort of divine inspiration or work, made manifest through the benevolent intervention of angels. That might be slightly harsh summary, but not too far off the mark. He literally says "We were put here on earth to act as agents of the Infinite" and "The artist is the servant of that intention, those angels, that Muse." Okay, perhaps he's just being allegorical. Nope. When talking about the fruits of our labor, he says "That is to do the work and give it to Him. Do it as an offering to God."Putting the religious aspects of section 3 aside, the rest of it is the worst kind of shoot-from-the-hip psychology. He does a deep dive into the Ego - ignoring the conventional definition and redefines it for his own purposes. He tries to draw a distinction between a hierarchical and territorial mode of thinking - unsuccessfully. He makes outlandish claims, like ignoring the authentic self may be the cause of cancer and embracing the self might be its cure. He, literally, says that becoming your authentic self could cure cancer. He goes on to explain how the colloquialisms for inebriation - stoned, smashed, hammered - are all referring to the destruction of the Ego in order to access the Self. There's no etymological basis for his statement. There isn't even any anecdotal evidence to support this. When speaking about the relationship between a mother and her child, he says "She knows it came out of her but not from her, through her but not of her." It's an interesting thought, but biologically incorrect. Lastly, he makes claims that are openly contrary. He says "Union and mutual assistance are the imperatives of life", but a few pages later says it would be incorrect to call friends for reassurance if you were feeling anxious. To me, this section felt like a mess and it ruined the book for me.In summary, this book does not have any sort of authoritative voice on procrastination, productivity, or personal achievement. It is a snapshot of a specific artist's mental model of the creative struggle. If you are looking for some sort of cogent or practical insights, then you will be disappointed. If you would describe yourself as spiritual and, probably, believe that crystals have curative properties (no judgement), then this book will probably speak to you.

I read the foreword and first groaned a little with the god talk. I continued to read. I couldn't make it to book three. This the first time in awhile I couldn't finish a book. Judging by how much I agree with many of the other 1 star reviews, I can only expect a greater degree of suffering and discomfort as the book "goes off the rails" in book 3. I find it interesting the five star reviews that say this book is motivating. I actually found it depressing and full of negative energy. It's riddled with feelings of guilt (the Christian kind), xenophobia, intolerance, disarray and just plain ignorance. It's full of strong opinions and weak on coherence and logical reasoning. I found the author contradictory in many cases. Also, the format is terribly annoying.Summary: Book 1: stop procrastinating. Book 2: just do it. Book 3: make art for god? If there is a god, please help steer others away from this silly book.

Thought provoking book. The sections on Resistance really resonated with me. I can find a thousand things to do instead of creating my art and, at my age, if I don't take control and overcome Resistance pretty soon, my time will be up. Not being a "God" believer, the last part of the book left me cold. I suppose I could extrapolate those sections into forces of the universe, but it was a let down to have to wade through all that anyway. One message is clear: Start. Open your eyes and your heart to supporting forces (people) that will cross your path (like never noticing another Land Rover on the road until you buy one and suddenly they are everywhere), and create for the sake of creating.

It is not "The Little Humpbacked Horse" the original Russian tale written by Yershov. But it is a cutesy-pootsy short story for kids. For whatever reason the Firebird has been replaced by a big golden Russian swine. By the end of this story "Ivan (the prime character) instantly stripped off his clothes and jumped first into the boiling mares' milk." Pretty morbid? Well, mysterious Russian soul.

Took grandaughter to Russian ballet of this story. She was enthralled. It was very helpful for her to read the book first.

i for forgot i bought this.

This book is based on a very famous Russian fairy tale. Certain details of it have been changed. For example, in the original book the first objective Ivan has to meet is capture the fire bird. Here he is supposed to captured a wild bore with golden bristles and silver tasks and her 20 sucklings. This does not change the main message and lesson of the story. The artwork is wonderful.

The book, A Little Humpback Horse, was in good condition, as advertised and I enjoyed seeing it again ( I had the book as a child).

Wonderful version of Russian folk fairy tale. This book is great present for 4-10 years old kids. High quality paper and full of bright pictures. My little buddy could not wait evening to listen how his Mom read it to him.

I bought this book to study for the Manufacturing Planning and Control module for the APICS CPIM test. It was listed as one of the primary references in the Exam Content Manual.If this wasn't one of the primary references for the exam, I would not read it.I find the explanations of concepts to be overly complex in some cases, and lacking in other areas. I've seen concepts presented more clearly in other learning materials before, such as an online class I took from Michigan State University, as well as Introduction to Materials Management by Tony Arnold. If I hadn't learned some of the concepts from other materials, I would be struggling to understand what the authors in this book were trying to teach.This book also has grammatical issues, awkward writing in some places, and bad editing. One example of bad editing has the first line of a paragraph state the following: "...we show a plan that maintains five days of supply at the end of each month." and the last line of a paragraph state the following "...that results in a five-week supply of inventory at the end of each month."This is an example of awkward writing: "...authorize spending for changes in production/procurement rate changes". The authors should have omitted the first "changes" and left the sentence as "...authorize spending for production/procurement rate changes".I find myself tempted to gloss over some material so I don't have to deal with the author's confusing explanations of concepts in some places.I never had this problem when reading Introduction for Materials Management by Tony Arnold for the Basics of Supply Chain Management exam module for the APICS CPIM.

As others saidâ€¦ my husband has seen many errors in this book. Would not recommend anyone waste their money.

This book is filled with errors. Both mathematical and grammatical. I am studying for the CPIM exam and I don't feel like I can even trust the answer key anymore. The authors should be embarrassed and APICS should re-evaluate their endorsement of this book. It is completely unacceptable that a test reference be this sloppy. Terrible.

Useful for those who are seeking an APICâ€™s certification.

Aside from the errors in the tests and answers other reviewers have mentioned, the content is poorly organized and inefficiently written. I only continue to read on because this is a major reference for a CPIM module. The writing is not very effective, and lacks of details on some of the topics. Reading this book aggravates me, I wish I didn't have to read this book.

I've worked in Supply Chain logistics for about 12 years and I found this book to be poorly written. The information on each of the chapters subjects lack in-depth explanation and can leave the reader confused. It seems if they had just copy and pasted from Wikipedia instead of writing a book to explain the concepts to those without any experience in Supply Chain. Without that background in Supply Chain I would think the reader would struggle to understand the material.

Mainly for ATP (Chapter 7):Errors in the formulas and questions are misleading. We spent awful lot of time trying to figure out how to calculate the wrong value

I really enjoy their podcast; they are personable and engaging, but I was completely underwhelmed by this book. My husband and I decided to read this together, and the book got increasingly hard to finish- not because it was a tough read, but because it was so much story telling with very little practicals. We were hoping for more practicals on how they created a love that lastedâ€” how they got through previous insecurities or how they worked through conflict/family/past issues. It seemed to us that this book was not created for all stages of relationships but really geared towards singles. Iâ€™d honestly recommend this book for singles or newly dating couples but definitely not married couples. It is really just a story on how two people met and fell in love with a little God sprinkled throughout. Not something with practicals and not something for married couples.

Being single I was very concerned that I was going to be reading a book that told me how to have a better marriage. I opened the first page of the book and fell in-love with it. From the onset, I could relate to Jeff and I instantly wanted to be Best Friends with Alyssa. I felt as though they had both gotten to know me personally. They beautifully wrote to all stages of relationships, and anyone can learn from it.They took the time to remind readers of Godâ€™s feelings on each one of the sexes. Jeff reminded us that women are not just objects, but image bearers of Christ. That stuck with me throughout the whole book as I continued to read it. It has helped my perspective on men also. Remembering that guys are image bearers along with women reminds me of our worth in Christ.Jeff and Alyssa reminded us that our past is not something that we need to continue to live in. They donâ€™t deny that these things will continue to creep in to your life, but they encourage you in your process to overcome them. They both speak from personal experiences and advise you to be honest with the person you would like to be married too.Jeff and Alyssa used 2 Corinthians 12:9 â€œAnd he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.â€ to remind us that God uses these things in our life to show his power.This book will have you laughing and crying with every page turn as you read how Jeff asked Alyssa out for the first time (totally classy), and how they broke up for a while. As such, they both had struggles with issues of self-worth that stemmed from things such as porn and an eating disorders. Through alternating chapters, the couple share, very candidly, how these struggles affected any relationship they tried to form. They share the rocky road that God led them on to finding each other and the grace He showed them through His Word that opened their eyes to the joy that relationships can be when you apply God's Word to them.I've been on launches of Jeff's in the past and I always say the same thing when I am done reading them. There are some people that no matter their ages, God has just gifted with the ability to mentor others, both younger and older than himself. They are very grounded in the Bible and have a genuine love of people in the sense that God calls us to love others that jumps off the pages at you.I have been married 18 years and I profoundly wish this book was available to me and my husband prior to our marriage. As such, our marriage has been a struggle at times as things come to surface that were never really addressed before we were married. I wish I hadn't bought this book. Avoid, avoid, avoid.This cookbook is awful. I didn't exactly expect 1000 unique recipes, but I thought I'd have more than 58. And I thought the recipes it DID have would be edible. I was wrong on both counts.This book is extremely poorly written. I know a lot of first time users of the Instant Pot (those who this book is supposedly written for) have confusion about their new machine. The English and grammar in this book are so poor, many of the instructions and comments have to be read multiple times, adding more confusion to an already new and confusing topic. Moving past that, when you do finally have a finished product on your plate, you don't even want to eat it. All of the recipe's I've made so far have been incredibly bland and tasteless, or so soft and mushy I'd be embarrassed to serve them to guests.I almost gave the review two stars, because the book DOES lay out a menu 1000 meals in advance to help with meal planning, which is a nice feature. The problem is, there isn't anything in this entire book that I'd want to eat for 2 and 3/4 years.Point your web browser away from this page, and towards a Google search of Internet Instant Pot recipes. You'll save money, and have a much better product.

Itâ€™s a shame there is not a zero star because this â€œbookâ€ would have gotten just that!The grammar is so bad in the book it has become the laughing stock of my house.Not worth the time or money to return the book as it was less than $4 when I purchased it. I see theyâ€™ve doubled that price now. Thatâ€™s laughable!

Despite the bold 1000 in the title, there are only about 60 recipes in this book. They get the 1000 number from a series of 140 weekly meal plans that are in the back of the book. Each plan just repeats some of the same meals week to week, but in a different order. The recipes look good but this isn't what we thought we were getting when we ordered the book.

From opening the box of your new instant pot, to simple recipes that almost anyone could follow, this book has it all. I especially like that most of the recipes contain ingredients that are found in most people's kitchens. She has also listed carb and calorie counts for those following diets. This is a good book for both, those learning how to cook, and for the more experienced as well.

We, my husband and I, were horrified that this book was not proof read before it was sent to the printer. There are a LOT of missing words in sentences and one has to reread those sentences in order to try to understand what she is trying to say. (Maybe the author was too busy to test the recipes.) Also, the book is printed on a low-grade paper which is not good for a cook book. If you splash food on the pages, it will soak in. We would have immediately returned the book, but because of the cost of postage and the price of the book it wasn't worth it.

Very few recipes in this book even though it has "1000" in bold letters on the cover, not to mention that the recipes it does actually have in it aren't anything to write home about. Just another person trying to make money off of the Instant Pot popularity without taking the time to actually put together a good cookbook worth owning. Not worth the paper it is written on, which isn't saying much. Save your money and buy a different cookbook for your Instant Pot or better yet, search the internet for good recipes for your pressure cooker. There are so many out there.

The title of this cookbook is deceptive. There are only about 60 recipes. If you want someone to tell you what food to eat for 1000 days this would be great, otherwise I would suggest finding a different cookbook.

Oh, my heart. This book really snuck up on me. It reminded me of a 80s movie, like The Big Chill or The Breakfast Club or IT without the horror parts.They call themselves The Gunners, a group of childhood friends who, in spite of being very different, become bonded at a young age. Years later, when theyâ€™re all in their early 30s, they reunite when a member of the group commits suicide.Over the course of this short novel, we come to know each of The Gunners through their weekend together at Sallyâ€™s funeral and flashbacks to their childhood. They harbor lifelong secrets, each convinced that they were somehow responsible for driving Sally away years earlier.The story focuses primarily on Mikeyâ€”lonely, depressed, and suffering from early onset macular degeneration. Heâ€™s the only one of The Gunners (aside from the long-estranged Sally) who has stayed behind in their blue-collar upstate New York town.Kauffmanâ€™s writing is simple, yet exquisitely observant and detailed in a way that sort of stuns you with humor and poignancy. The characters are rich and vibrant, their inner lives and internal struggles relatable and meaningful.I really loved this novel, and feel genuinely touched by its beauty and sincerity.

I don't get the hype on this one. The story seemed like one we've read before and the characters were all pretty forgettable. It felt like the plot went nowhere and it was just boring, a no from me.

Contrived and trite. Very disappointing

Is it just me, or did the central question in this book never get resolved in anyway? This might be a spoiler, so read at your own risk, but honestly, Id say skip this book all together. Why did Sally shun the whole group? It's the whole premise, and I kept waiting until the very last sentence thinking this will surely be answered, or why have I wasted this time on a book that wasn't particularly well written or interesting. The characters were likable enough, but were drawn very thinly. The father character's whole story arc was totally unbelievable.

I really can't say why but this book will stay with me. In very ordinary days, a few celebrations, the love these friends feel is so real. Not a lot of flowery images, no real drama,....this book works. My heart feels good and really quietly happy. What a talent Kauffman has.

Six neighborhood children form a gang called the Gunners. They grow apart in high school after one abruptly detaches from the group. Jump forward twenty years and the detached member commits suicide. The five friends try to figure out why. Each feel they are responsible. Loved the way this bookâ€™s story unfolded. Great read!

My sister and I do a monthly book club for my nephew, and this was my most recent pick. Although my 2-year-old nephew was a bit perplexed at the idea of tushies wandering off, my family loved this story. The adults were so amused by it that nearly everyone has read the story with him.The artwork is really cute, I love the colors, and it really does make you appreciate a certain unappreciated part of the anatomy. If you're a parent who likes bedtime stories that aren't SUPER long, this is a great selection. The book is relatively short, with just a few lines of text on each page. The fact that it all rhymes makes it kind of fun to read aloud, too.Overall, highly recommended. I'm guessing a 4 or 5-year-old might enjoy it more than my almost 3-year-old nephew (he doesn't find tushies very funny yet), but it's a funny book either way.

There are other books for kids that are specifically designed to educate, and maybe entertain. This is a book that will definitely entertain, and probably educate.The analogy that comes to mind immediately is the verse of W.S. Gilbert. Like Gilbert's work, the verse here is well done, clever, and designed to please the audience. The story is very cute, and the rhymes are a constant, pleasant surprise. The attention to scansion is striking, which should please the "well versed." The illustrations are fun, and considering their subject, very tasteful.Given the choice between this book and more serious children's books, I think a goodly number of kids would choose this one. There are other books to shape young characters and to contemplate the eternal verities. This one was designed to be fun, and it is.Bravo!

My niece LOVES this book. we read it everytime I see her, and she knows it by heart. It is hilarious. One day I called her and while talking, I mentioned my tushy was missing. She was worried for weeks, until she saw me. I didn't think she thought I was serious!

Just what kid's love. A playful "lets pretend" story - involving a body part, no less. What if our derrieres really decided it was time for a vacation? That the story is told in rhymes makes it more fun, easier to repeat along with the reader, and easier for a child to learn to read himself.The illustrations are wonderful. How would you imagine a tushy to look while sneaking out of town? Adults will enjoy reading the story at their kids' bedtime. But check in the morning to be sure your tushy is still attached!

Very cute story, but weirds out my 3 year old. Not his favorite, but I enjoyed it.

Very fun to read to my 3-yr-old grandson who is just beginning to play "pretend".
