Essentially a collection of 500 portraits, this book comprises a lot of photographs of men, divided into the following sections of poses:Head and shouldersWaist up¾ length seated¾ length standingFull length seatedFull length standing(Apparently real men don't recline) :)Each photograph gives credit to the photographer, but no other information.There's also a short section on posing basics and a long section about the contributing photographers.Many of the poses were duplicated and uninspired, and the pictures are a random mix up of boys, older men, sportsmen, musicians etc. depending on the pose. One shot for example, is just a man squatting in the middle of the road, another is a man squatting next to a truck, and a third is a man squatting next to his golf clubs. I guess men squat a lot.Also, work and formal wear are mixed in with sports and casual wear, so if you're looking for inspiration to pose a bridegroom, you have to flip through the whole thing. Most of the photos show quite small on the Kindle, and although each one can be zoomed for better viewing, it's really a pain on the original Kindle.It would also have been helpful if some footnotes were used for each portrait, emphasizing a few significant elements of its composition and lighting. (eg - 3/4 view, medium light box, backlit, note the position of the hands and the torso angle)The posing basics section was informative, and some of the portraits are useful as visual prompts for unwilling or pose-challenged male subjects, but on the whole it's a tad limited for practical use on a shoot.Amanda Richards, January 17, 2012

I started with 500 poses for groups and couples and have since added every 500 poses title from Perkins including a pre-order of 500 Poses for Infants and Toddlers. These are exactly what the title says...a visual source book. And, as I've said in reviews of other books in this "series" I guess you could call it, while I don't imagine I'll duplicate any pose exactly, I can see myself easily combining some of the different poses present for more pleasing compositions. I am a very visual learner so this is the perfect medium for me to learn posing as it's just image after image after image after image of men posed/posing in various scenarios. The same goes for all the other options in the 500 poses family.

This book is horrible. There may be 500 photos in this book, but there is no where near 500 unique photos. You'll find the same basic "poses" repeated over and over again. In fact, most of the photos are just plain bad. If you want to learn to suck at posing your male clients/models/subjects (whatever you want to call them), then this is the book perfect for you. I would be embarrassed to have 90% of these photos in my portfolio. If you're looking for inspiration in posing men and boys, save your money and surf the web for it.

I have an extensive photography library for my personal resource and because I also teach photography. The title of the book drew my interest as poses for men are limited compared to women's poses. I was hoping that this would be a useful resource book. Unfortunately, it doesn't really teach you anything. Its just a collection of 500 images. It only devotes two pages to discuss some tips but doesn't explain what works and what doesn't. It does have a few quotes from various photographers but it doesn't really offer much. Furthermore, it has so many of the same poses. Like there are 3 half body shots of the model holding a bat over their shoulders behind their heads in the same manner. There are also 3 different shots of young people holding a guitar in exactly the same way. Then there are a dozen similar shots of men standing with hands in their pockets. That's just a few samples of repetitive poses. So, you don't get 500 unique poses. Not only that, some of the poses are more of novelty shots or wacky shots that most people would never use. I was hoping that 1. there would be 500 unique poses. 2. that all the sample poses would be useful and not wasted shots such as shots of someone holding juggling batons to cover his face in a weird way.You're actually better off just searching the internet and you'll find a lot more useful images and not have to waste your hard earned money.Sorry, but the worst photography book purchase I've made.

A lot of glossy images for sure, but as others have noted a lot of them are repeats of the same pose with different models. Perhaps they shuld have called this book 100 poses with different models. Also, for me at least as photographer learning the ropes still, I would expect to see some basic information accompany the images so I know a bit about the way such images are made... information such as camera model, aperture, shutter speed, iso... as it is, the book might just have well been 50 pencil sketches.Dont get me wrong, some very nice images in there but still disapointing we know nothing about their construction other than the photographers name! If you really dont have any ideas about posing perhaps get this for a start, but there are plenty of better books out there... or just browse some magazines and see!

I have the whole series of these books. They are great for using with a client in a photo shoot to show examples of suggested poses. Lots of pictures to thumb through. I am a semi-professional photographer.

I make a little money on the side taking pictures and the hardest part of most photo shoots is that people don't know what they want! This book is organized by head shots, upper body, 3/4 poses and finally full body shots (and props). It is super easy to just let people flip though the book to help them narrow down their focus and get ideas. Then I use the books photo to adjust my lighting. What could be more simple? I also purchased the 500 Poses of Women and get a ton of use out of it.

Not worth the $. Not many impressionable poses. Several look geeky and non attractive.

But i am not i enjoy it and i usually comes with a suitable conclusion about anything where most of the others just gave up.I have read a lot of books to make it organized and stay on focus on specific matter when at some place i messed up. Book like this really helps me on that and this book definitely the best of my list. It explained the idea of critical thinking nicely and yes even i as a critical thinker enjoy to think about the author's writing style and what he wanted to said inside the book. The strategies and instructions he provides have already working for me. I think they would bring some real change to your way of seeing things. All the best.

Good book with good points. I like the simplicity of the concept,it’s a little conceptual but won’t affect to get to the real point. I would recommend to the people start to realize some self control issue and want to put some simple plan to work on it. It’s five star as the author put thoughts together and presented in a very decent way, it gets to the point.

It's a calendar. Not much to say about that part. However, the pictures for the months are well picked. They aren't all the generic pictures used in advertisement. Another good thing to say about it is it came with a piece of cardboard inside, keeping it from bending during shipping.

This is the only Nintendo official Zelda calendar available for purchase in the USA. My son is 8 and loves everything Zelda, since he needs a calendar anyways, I decided to get this one, and gave it as a stocking stuffer. He's got hoverboard, pokemon and other wonderful games for Christmas, and yet, I see him turning the pages in this calendar every so often!!

I bought the 2017 one to use for 2017 (shocking) and I loved it so much I ordered the 2018 version. The calendar is well made and has enough room per day to write all my classes and events without squishing them. I also enjoy the layout and mini pictures that compliment the large ones.

Bought this for my nerdy husband who likes to be nostalgic from time to time of the games that shaped and made his childhood great. So far he thinks the February picture is better than January, but he hasn't looked at the rest because he wants to be surprised as they come up. A year worth of surprises?!?! WHAT!?!? He highly recommends buying this and adding it to your and anyone else's wall if you enjoy beautiful art.

This is a very nice calendar with bold, vibrantly printed illustrations and quality paper. It includes all four championships along with Link and Zelda in the game’s signature picturesque scenery. Highly recommended for any Botw fan!

My roommate hates me for buying this. I love this calendar as much as I love the series. Just wish they would have shown more than just a handful of the same game images. Overall I’m thrilled!

My daughter and I are major LoZ fans and love looking forward to what the next month is. The artwork is perfect. I only have one little complaint and that is that there aren't moon phases on this calender as there have been on all of my calenders in the past and I found those very useful.

HUGE Zelda fan here. I buy this calendar every year and this time the artwork is rather boring and basic. Lots of character art rather than illustration just pasted over a gradient background. Still, a LoZ fan cannot be without it.

Nevertheless I decided to give it another try, either to be able to articulate specifically what I found wrong with the book or to give it a more sympathetic and engaged reading.First, I confirmed what I suspected about the book's process of composition. Viewed from this perspective, each chapter had the coherence and scope of his remarkable speeches, such as the one I heard at the organizing conference for Focus the Nation in Las Vegas <[...]>And even when general points were repeated, Orr seemed in each essay to summon up different examples and sources.A second reading also revealed an overall structure of chapters that moved forward from beginning to middle and end despite the backtracking. Preface and Introduction both state the predicament and his solutions. We are facing what has been called a long emergency or a bottleneck, a worldwide period of crisis brought on by the environmental degradation and climate change that misguided human impacts have produced over the last 200 years. The way out will be long and arduous, and only possible with strong, transformative leadership, primarily in the presidency but also at all levels of government and society. Leaders have three leading tasks: move the citizenry out of a state of denial to a recognition of the dangers, develop energy policies that reverse our dependence on carbon and promote renewables, and foster a deepening of public morality emphasizing fairness, compassion, nonviolence and a sense of purpose and reverence for nature grounded in appreciation and gratitude.These three mandates are reaffirmed throughout the book.The three chapters of section I, Politics and Governance, assert that Government is the only agency strong enough to effectively address the emergency but that government needs to be transformed. Chapter 1, Governance, asserts that the challenges of mitigating and adapting to climate change and its associated catastrophes can be faced by reversing the trend toward unregulated corporate power, trivialized and ineffective journalism, excessive consumerism and rule by lobbyists. This can be done by redistribution of wealth and privilege, publicly funded elections, smartening land use and agricultural policy, promoting universal access to communication media and promotion of small community autonomy. But first government itself must be transformed from its present corrupt and dysfunctional state to a just, effective and elevating one. This will have to be accomplished through a mechanism like a new Constitutional Convention and the establishment of a new consensus.Chapter 2 is a meditation on democracy, the form of government most likely to succeed despite its faults, the failures of its alternatives, like natural capitalism, and unregulated free-market capitalism, and the proposal of a legal, constitutional framework for instituting the kinds of social transformation needed to address climate change based on the new idea of the legal standing of future generations.Chapter 3, Leadership in the Long Emergency, compares today's crisis with those faced by Lincoln and Roosevelt, and concludes that Obama can learn leadership lessons from both his great predecessors, which include the necessity of understanding and framing those crises both as legal-constitutional issues requiring preservation of law and tradition and as moral issues requiring deep personal insight and unshaken commitment. Orr repeats the laundry list of reforms mentioned earlier that Obama needs to accomplish. Chapter 4, Leadership, defines true leadership, like that of those predecessors, as the capacity to energize and give direction to the populace.Part II, Connections, is transitional in the overall structure of the book, but provides a sample of some of Orr's strongest qualities as a writer, manifested when he lets a more imaginative, associative principle guide his design. Chapter 5, The Carbon Connection, juxtaposes two powerful narrative descriptions: nature's devastation of humans in New Orleans by Katrina, presumably caused by climate change, and humans' devastation of nature in Coal Companies' mountaintop removal, causing climate change. Chapter 7, Milennial Hope, lists factors blocking us from taking the steps necessary to confront and deal with the coming crisis and solutions, psychological, political, and spiritual, concluding with a story of Gandhian non-violence displayed by Amish toward a mass murderer who shot a number of their children. Chapter 8, Hope at the End of our Tether, expands the emphasis on anti-militarism, Gandhian Satyagraha and other Gandhian principles like anti-materialism--shift from wealth to happiness--social justice, and localism.The final chapter, The Upshot: What is to be Done? echoes both Aldo Leopold and Lenin, verbally in the titles of two of their well known works, and thematically in calling for the creation of a community that includes natural beings and systems and in calling for a total revolution to be initiated by a vanguard of leaders, giving direction and energy to an awakened populace. The first section covering the same ground as the preceding chapters, this chapter and section ends with a powerful vision of a desireable outcome from the long emergency only ten years in the future, located in his home town of Oberlin Ohio, where the very specific programs he has set in motion as an activist and educator have run their course. The vision is startlingly similar to the kinds of programs and visions activists at Cal Poly and in San Luis Obispo County have dedicated themselves. More than anything in this book, these few pages (212-215) provide some of the grounds for hope that present conditions don't encourage in regard to most of the books larger recommendations."Postscript: A Disclosure" is vintage Orr. It's a recollection of the extraordinarily hot summer of 1980 when he and his brother worked like slaves on a farm in Arkansas, as the temperature reached 111 degrees and stayed there. It was then that he became interested in climate change. He says he felt it viscerally, the memory recorded in his body. That's why it's presented as a disclosure. But the impact of that memory, I'm afraid is unlikely to be felt until the rest of us consistently experience such nasty conditions, and by then it's likely to be too late.Taking issue:"leadership"--is Obama like Lincoln and Roosevelt, sticking to the moral vision, keeping legal and constitutional integrity at the fore, reaching the people?Seemed so at inauguration, but less so now, largely because of loss of confidence resultant from bailouts and compromises, failure to seize the opportunity with courage--e.g. CopenhagenThe long emergency--less perceivable now than in 2006, when much of this was written and when Katrina and An Inconvenient Truth and IPCC and oil spike converged to shake people up.Non-violence, Satyagraha--true, and a manifestation of deeper humanity, but desperation is less likely to bring it to the fore, especially when the rulers and perpetrators are becoming more brazenCoupling peace, justice and sustainability has advantages but also makes any progress seem hopeless, because it will leave so much undone.

Very well written, Down to the Wire manages to explain our predicament without understating it, yet without entirely giving over to despair.

I was actually hoping for a book that would contain some user friendly info - what I personally can do as an individual to help with this problem. A lot of this book is simply about how the author feels there should be a change in politics, and the public/private sector relationship is too cozy in government.I was also hoping for a bit more quantitative data on the issue as well, and the book also lacked in this area. The author does list his website a couple times throughout the book ([...]) which does lead you to some data, and I feel had he included some more of that info in the book it would have been better.Kind of a gloomy book; I'm not sure that we will manage to change our ways enough to prevent climate destabilization in the future.

Very faint print makes this classic hard to read. Stick to the kindle version.

I really, really, really hope that Professor Orr will see the movie and read the book, 'Forks Over Knives' (pcrm.org)AND "Veganist", by Kathy Freston.We can change the world pretty quick (and our own health) by radically changing our - VERY destructive - diets.Have a look!

Orr provides an eye-opening case for the selfish role government plays. Only now have we matured enough to realize the great havoc we raise on a planet doomed by our indulgence and failure to heed nature's warning. We must assume responsibility of planet maintenance. It is crucial we do this--not for our political pride or correctness, but for our very existence.What Is to Be Done? (Chapter 8) Orr calls upon leaders to lead the world into balance with nature to curtail a catastrophe from global warming. He outlines the political manifestation of the problem and proposes five challenges. Each involves the willingness of leaders to refrain from selfish pride and acknowledge that a problem exists. We are not talking about hundreds of thousands, as was the case of the Indonesian tsunami that killed 230,000, we are talking about hundreds of millions of people worldwide in low-lying cities. Still, many policy makers sit on the sidelines and pretend it will all go away.I praise people like David Orr, who are brave enough to lay it all out in clear English: wake up, people! We are out of time. Down to the Wire is a book everyone must read.

I attended AACN's NTI critical care conference in 2007, and had the privilege of attending lectures by Thomas Ahrens. After studying tons of material in preparation for the exam, this was the last book I purchased. It should have been the first and only one I purchased. Ahrens simplifies complex concepts in an interesting manner, and covers material you WILL SEE on the exam. This book was the most helpful resource I utilized! He presents hundreds of scenarios and practice questions, which were priceless when I sat for the exam. I passed the paper-and-pencil, full-length CCRN exam on the first try. Great prep indeed from Ahrens - a valuable and brilliant critical care expert.Tip: If you want in-depth info (down to the cellular level), try using the "Core Curriculum" from AACN as an added source. Although Ahrens' book is the most in-line with the actual exam, if you desire advanced pathophysiological data, you will require another source.

I would have to say that this is the best CCRN review book out there. It is easily readable, comprehensive, and includes many practice questions to help you determine if you understand, can apply, and can remember the material. I have bought other review books, but unfortunately, they have been in outline forms and not as valuable. They get boring quick too! I have no problems with the little bits of extra infomration included in this book that may or may not be on the exam as it helps you comprehend the other information and serves as a review. I have bought other books that only have questions for review and I must say that I tried some of them without this book and did so so, but not great. After reading the sections of this book, I went back to those questions and others I had not done and did much much, much better, as I had reviewed the information and had a better understanding of the material! I certianly think this is a good book for anyone planning to take the CCRN exam or wishing to brush up and learn more about critical care nursing in general! I definately believe this book is the book I need to help me pass the CCRN. I am planning to take the exam in September- I will leave and update to how I do after! Thanks again for this book.

Great book to learn however I would not recommend it. It goes into a lot of cool to know things but not needed in my opinion. Would recommend the pass ccrn practice questions instead and the videos of the funny female nurse everyone illegally has.

I too thought that the first chapter was hard to get through--the cardiovascular section is extremely thorough and has quite a bit of information that really isn't addressed on the exam. The remaining chapters, however, were much easier reading, and the explanations are so much better than what I have found in other books. The book also has an extensive collection of practice questions, and while it does not give rationales for the correct answers, it does direct you to where it was covered in the book. I used several resources to study for the exam and this one was by far the most complete. I am currently in a graduate program working on my CCNS and I still use this book all of the time as a reference for my assignments.

The book is dense and dry. In addition to that the CD that was included did not work on either computer in my house. Luckily i purchased two study guides. I would recommend Barron's over this one. I am now on the phone with McGraw Hill and the support is lacking. too late for me to get my money back.

An awesome reference book for all things critical care. It definitely goes into way more detail than is needed for the CCRN exam, but is an incredibly useful tool.

Good book but way more depth than you need for the actual CCRN book, in my opinion. The practice questions are helpful, but way more difficult than the exam. The cardiac practice test questions can be helpful. I watched the Laura Gasparis videos, studied a comprehensive 80 page review of systems I found online, and went through a CCRN practice question book online twice, relied on my experience with PA catheters and MICU patients and was able to pass the first time. Don't think you need to study before signing up for the test because you might put it off for years. Just sign up for the damn test so you can buckle down and make yourself study! Highly recommend buying a CCRN practice test questions book
