While content is everything other reviewers claim it to be, the quality of my publication is so bad I'm wondering if its a low budget edition or bootlegged copy. Previous reviewers discuss the high quality of photographs, but the quality of what I received makes it unreadable and a waste of money.Upon arrival book appeared unopened. Shrink - wrapped in crisp,unblemished plastic. No wear, tightly compressed pages. Arrived on time and indeed, appeared new. A few weeks passed before I'd time to really relax and enjoy thumbing through for the first time. What a surprise: pages fell loose from the jacket, many separating from the binding more than half way just from the effort of turning them. Once the book was opened and looked through, the entire block of pages fell away when turned, as if this was an unbound manuscript. Flimsy card stock cover simply ripped itself from the binding and back cover. Aside from glue, nothing else was holding my book together. Because I'd given this a good rating when it arrived, I didn't have the option of returning itPhotos in my copy are blurred, many black and white: this isn't what other reviewers are describing when discussing their copies. Text is sharp on some pages, blurred on others. Abundant offset ink soon turns the fingers gray and is probably responsible for the blurred text and smudged appearance of the pages.Inspect your copy carefully when it arrives, and thumb through a few times, or you'll be stuck with a stack of useless paper like I was.

This is not a coffee-table book, though it is profusely illustrated and a joy to peruse, but a thorough-going, very learned and scholarly account of its subject. One can see again and again to what extent the author has devoted himself, for many years, to an intensive study of the complex and extremely varied body of Indian ethnic adornment. Those who might think immediately of just gold, silver and precious stones, for example, will not only find themselves satisfied, but also surprised by how much else - artistically in no sense inferior - they will find. One learns, as should be the case with any good book on ethnic adornment, not only much about the pieces shown, but also about their creators, and the important role which the objects played in their cultures. In short, this is an outstanding book, and one that anyone collecting Indian ethnic jewellery should own. As collectors we (my wife Truus and I) have been gratified to use it intensely after its publication, after we had, along with other devotees, looked out for the book for several years. This study has certainly been worth waiting for! Unhesitatingly recommended. And the paperback is a steal at the price.

I thought I'd try this shortcut for Pollan's book.I think the $5 would have been better spent buying the real book.This synopsis looks like a rush job, typo's, grammar errors, and generally poor writing.Take a skeptical look at the positive reviews. Many have nearly identical wording and again, poorly written.I suspect they were auto-generated. or submitted by the same people under multiple names.Pollan's book is quoted at times,but the Summary does not clearly indicate (no quotation signs) which is material directly from the book,and which is being paraphrased by the Summary.

This was my first (and last) "One Hour Summary" purchase. A 5th grade student could have written a more informative synopsis - without the annoying grammatical errors and the unclarity of whether it is quoting from the actual writer, or rather this summary author's first-person interjection. I liked the idea of a summary of book as I often get these types of mind-spirituality-medicine books and never read the whole thing, but I assumed it would be summarized by the publisher of the real book - or at least someone with graduate level education about the subject matter.For example, in Chapter 3 Pollan (the real author) describes how in the 1940s and '50s, therapists and doctors were looking into how pyschedelics helped with alcoholism and addictions: The summary says, "Bill Wilson was the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, and in the mid-1950s, he was interested in LSD. He wasn't so perplexed by the idea because a similar experience had helped him overcome his own addiction in 1934. He would later take part in sever (sic) LSD sessions".Though I haven't read the actual author's description of this, I have heard him talk about this in interviews, and he doesn't use words like "he wasn't so perplexed by the idea..." The whole summary is written like this, in a manner that sounds unsophisticated, even uninformed. And, yes, it is full of grammatical errors like "sever" instead of "several" that makes me wonder if an editor or simple computer spell check even looked it over. I'm surprised any one who read it can objectively give it more than 1 or 2 stars.

Hoping for a paperback printing of the original Pollan book, I completely missed that this was a "summary". What is the point of getting a book like this? It's Michael Pollan. Buy the original!

As 'a quick review of the book's contents this "Summary" is worse than useless. The un-named "author" obviously is new to the English language: sentence structure is weird, word meanings are muddled, ideas in the original book are generally misunderstood, misrepresented, almost childlike in their nonsensical contortions and cause the entire "summary" to be generally unreadable! I have never encountered such a totally botched job of summation in my life! This should be an embarrassment to Pollan, to the publisher and to any serious scholarFrank Lawlor PhD

Once Fox relents and reveals the magic, Coyote repeats the words over and over, piling up a mountain of salmon which soon rot and stink. Coyote tries the incantation again, but there are no salmon left in the river.This is a rewarding glimpse into a rich, but different, culture that shows that people and their basic issues are the same, after all.

This is the book referenced in the Lucy Calkins third grade informational writing unit. It is a great example to use when teaching students about informational writing.For those not looking to teach with this book, the description of the animals in this book is fantastic.

Nice book but short. I purchased them as a requested gift.

I love all of these books! My 6 and 10 year old boys enjoy reading the fun facts and researching more information on the animals that they find REALLY interesting!! I would recommend to parents with children that don't yet LOVE to read. This will get them really interested in learning more and reading more!

My seven year old daughter loves to read and reread this book.

My son will love it. Colorful pictures and plenty of animals plus little tidbits. Right up his alley.It's a very thin book, I didn't count the pages in it, just surprised when I saw it. I guess the photos comprise the $4. I don't mean to sound petty but, I was expecting something different. All in all, he'll love it.

I bought this for my eight-year old grand son for his birthday. Like me, he loves animals and easily retains interesting facts about animals that he shares with everyone who will listens, and it is amazing how much he has learned just by reading. I bought this book mainly because I want to instill in him a love for animals that my sty with him throughout his life. I chose this book because I knew Nat Geo is famous for their photography and this book did not disappoint in that respect, and it was easy enough for my grand son to read, and I thought he would like it. He did. His mom did too, to an extent. She has arachnophobia and she did not like the photo of the Sydney Funnel Web spider, not that I blamed her. Though not severely suffering as she with arachnophobia, the photo even gave me the creeps!!! Despite the nasty eight-legged beast, the book was great and my grand son loves it! Great seller too, by the way! Thank you very much!

Wow, it changed my whole perspective on what was going to be on the actual test. A lot of the things in the practice test were things I really didn't know, especially in the mechanical and electronics knowledge. Of course, those sections don't exactly count unless you're pursuing a job in those fields, but a lot of the knowledge in the practice tests is very useful. Having not taken a mathematics course for awhile, it was good to retest my abilities on their problems. Whether or not you really want to score high on your ASVAB, I would suggest it just for keeping you sharp.edit: I'm currently in the process of joining the Air Force and passed the ASVAB with a 95/99

Very helpful and has good tests. The actual ASVAB is easier, which is a good thing. Prepare and practice with harder tests and a study guide like this, and you will do well. Just give yourself plenty of time to study. Ideally at least a week at minimum. If I recall I practiced with this for 2 weeks. I scored 93 on AFQT. I was quite a few years removed from high school too, so I had to relearn some of this stuff. Others, I learned for the first time.Honestly, heck, it is a good resource just for learning, regardless of trying to get into the military. Having little to no mechanical knowledge, I enjoyed learning about that from this book.

Using this book for my ASVAB, I scored a 89. To study off of this, I would write down notes in Cornell format, and I would study off of my notes each night. I recommend you to take the practice tests that were provided after finishing your notes on each section. You could also use flash cards to study from this book, or interacting with the book directly. Like highlighting and underlining things, then going back to them and looking over them periodically. This book played a huge role for me getting a good score on my ASVAB

Trust me when I say this will be an important purchase for anyone looking to take the ASVAB. I only had three days notice to get ready for the test and felt nervous about it. But after reading through the book over those few days, I felt confident going in. I ended up scoring a 94 AFQT score and qualified for any job I wanted. Not only will this book give you some basic knowledge you'll need to complete subtests you're unfamiliar with, it will also give you tips and methods on how to best attack questions you don't know how to answer. Would definitely recommend this to anyone preparing for the ASVAB.-Samuel

This was an excellent study guide for the ASVAB! I had graduated high school over 7 years ago so being able to brush up on my algebra and geometry was extremely helpful. It was an easy read and with 4 or 5 practice tests I felt prepared when the day to take the test actually came. I wasn't blindsided by any of the questions because the format was so similar to this book.

Helped me boost up my score a good 20 points from the last time I took the test.

Obviously the questions are the same but I would say it defitnstly helped me in the general topic. It helped me pass the ASVAB and the MEPS testing. You just have to be determined to learn and be on a schedule I would recommend. Worth the money for sure!!!

I actually passed the asvab and got into the military using this book. Well worth the money 👍
