Quite honestly, I have no idea what fills the 1100 pages of this book. The first and most fundamental problem is the index to the book.There really isn't one, and what there is refers you to the wrong pages, and most topics only get a paragraph of explanation. Clearly, he did not hire a professional to index the book. Every time I look something up in the index, it refers me to a page that has at most a paragraph related to the topic in question. I suppose somewhere in this massive tome there is useful information, but finding that information is nearly impossible. The second problem is that he takes the easy, shortcut route when providing the scant example code. Vast sections of code are replaced with . Well, it is the "good stuff" I'm looking for, and he has omitted what actually matters, and loaded up the existing example XALM with trivial stuff you already know. He completely omits the entire subject of "DataConext" and instead spends his time on the Background and Foregrond attributes of a XAML element. I have had several versions of this book, and they are all the same. Strangely, there is only one book in publication that tells you how WPF/XAML work and provides good solid examples of how to do it. That book is "Application = Code + Markup" by Charles Petzold, a long, long time MS designer who developed pretty much everything MS makes. He likely knows more about Window than anyone else on the planet. Really, no hyperbole. That book is in C# not VB, but it is very simple to translate the C# to VB if you have any experience at all in C#. Beyond that, there just aren't any good WPF books. If you want to really lean WPF, go to SourceForge and download projects with their source code;

This is a great book that starts at the very beginning, and treats the subject clearly and thoroughly and in enough detail for you to be able to go out there and actually do something.However, one book never covers any technology completely. The major gap in this book is that it says nothing about the MVVM pattern of databinding. After the (considerable) investment of reading this book, I really didn't know the first step to make in building a UI. The book does mention ways of getting data using either DTO classes or DataSets, but it would have been so helpful if the author had directed his readers to read up on the MVVM pattern, which I'm coming to learn is the accepted standard pattern for WPF databinding. As it was, I muddled along for a few frustrating weeks, ended up creating horrendous code-behind to populate my controls from a dataset, couldn't get things to work right, and then stumbled across MVVM as the "real" way to databind in WPF.For all other aspects of WPF the book is great.

Great book. I purchased this book twice. Once on the Kindle and the other is a real book.

I gotta say without a doubt Matthew Macdonald makes the most detailed books out there.I really liked all of the sample projects he has in all of his books.He does go into a bit too much detail though on most parts.Definitely a must have for any WPF arsenal.

I was loving everything about this book...up until the part about suicide. You may not realize how hurtful it was for me, and probably many others, to read your views about how we will be punished for ending our already existing pain. I wish you had included more positive experiences with those who take their lives, not just the negative ones. You mention that people aren't punished for suicide if it was the result of a mental illness. Well, guess what? I'm pretty sure ALL suicides are due to mental illness, or some other type of unbearable pain. People don't just wake up one morning, have a crappy day, and then decide all right, this life sucks, I guess I'll just check out now.I appreciate your research, and would like to reiterate that the book has brought me comfort. But I hope you would reconsider how your views on suicide might hurt bereaved loved ones. It is so cruel to suggest that good people who tolerated so much suffering in this life to the point where they couldn't take it anymore are now enduring even more torment. The hope I felt while reading this book quickly dissipated with that chapter.

This book has meant so much to me. I lost an adult son a year ago, and this book has given me confirmation that he still exists. I have experienced a few "messages" from him (smell of lilacs in an odd place and a dream where I "saw" him looking wonderful and and got to speak with him), and this book allowed me to know that I am not alone in having experienced contacts like these. What really gave the book credibility for me was that in the beginning information the authors wrote that they did not include any accounts from people who sought out contact through mediums or psychics; instead, these contacts were all non-solicited and often came at times when someone least expected contact.. I have read this book at least three times because it gives me such peace in my grief and allows me to remember that I will see my son again. He has just arrived in heaven before me. I give this books 5 stars and truly hope the authors will write another book with more accounts.

This book is really a interesting and educational book. I especially liked the one section where a loved one came through and said, "There is nothing to fear on Earth. We are always surrounded by loving spirit." I thank the author for writing it.

When the stories in this book were collected in the years prior to 1995, statistics showed that at least 50 million people, 20% of the population of the U.S.A., had experienced after-death communications. Only 10 million, or 4% of the population, had had near-death experiences then. This book includes several hundred accounts drawn from 2,000 interviews, each account here being about a page long.The stories are organized as to the manner of the communication: From those in which people felt and recognized the mere presence of someone they knew who was deceased, to presences recognized by the deceased person's perfume or characteristic body odor, to persons appearing and speaking in especially strong dreams and visions, to messages communicated through symbols such as butterflies and rainbows that appeared at especially significant times; and by other means. The message that was communicated by the deceased person was often one of reassurance to someone who was grieving or angry about the loss of the deceased person or who was worried about the fate of the dead person's soul. Some messages came from babies and young children who communicated coherently despite their young age. Other messages came from people who had been accident victims or even murder victims. Accident victims and afflicted people showed how their bodies were healed and perfect in Heaven. Victims often urged relatives to forgive and to love the criminals who had murdered or otherwise hurt them. They frequently said they'd suffered no pain, having left their bodies before the worst pain of the accident or attack. Almost always the messages were about how Heaven is a beautiful, loving, merciful place and not to worry or grieve anymore, that someday all loved ones would be united in Heaven where they would go on living and learning eternally. Some messages from the dead came as sudden warnings that saved the living from accidents or other crises, and some messages told the living how to locate hidden money and lost items.Sometimes persons were sent messages by means of friends or relatives or even strangers who were better able to RECEIVE the messages than the persons themselves were. The authors suggest learning to meditate as a way of becoming better disposed to receive messages from beyond.These messages in this book are a source of more information about the after-life and our life on earth than can be recounted in this brief review. The reader can learn a LOT of particular information from the messages' contents and reading the many and varied circumstances under which these messages occurred. For instance, there are descriptions of heavenly holding areas and of on-going healing efforts which might perhaps be equated with the traditional concept of Purgatory, but that term is never explicitly used. As with near-death experiences, the broad, general message is repeatedly that our purpose in life is to love and to go on learning, now and forever. However, the overwhelming effect of these ADCs is far more convincing than that of NDEs. On the whole, there is a greater sense of connectedness with reality and a down-to-earth quality about the ADCs, and some of them have been experienced by several witnesses simultaneously. Reading so many of these messages in detail, it would be difficult not to become overwhelmingly convinced that these ADCs are messages that are exactly what they purport to be. They apparently do communicate true and beneficial information to specific persons on earth, but all of us can learn MUCH from them. Not least of all, we can enjoy feeling reassured and uplifted by these joyous messages.All the persons interviewed were from fairly devout Jewish and Christian backgrounds, and none of the messages here were solicited by means of mediums or any other deliberate means of contact with the dead, however, many of these living persons were praying for signs from deceased loved ones.The authors went out of their way to warn over and over again that except in cases of suicide due to mental illness or inability to bear extreme pain or other extenuating circumstances, the repeated message is that suicide clearly leads to unhappy circumstances on the Other Side. Take a warning from the other side and from the authors' experiences with ADCs: Do Not Do It. We are here for a purpose and it is important that we live out our purpose on earth. There are lessons we're meant to learn by living out the full term of our earthly lives.I'll summarize a few stories as follows:Emily was worried that despite her intense prayers, her brother Leon had died without accepting the Lord Jesus into his life. She greatly feared that he was in Hell. Even after he died, she went on praying and got many other people to pray for him, too. She kept asking for a sign that he was with the Lord. One day, after 5 months, she was driving home while a rain storm was clearing and a bright ray of sunlight broke through the clouds. Of that time, she says, "When I looked off to my right, my brother was there with the Lord." She describes them both as life-size, solid and three-dimensional, with just the upper half of them showing. The Lord was wearing a robe, facing Leon, and Leon was facing her. Both were smiling. Leon looked younger and healthier than when he died. Seeing this, she felt satisfied. Leon was with Jesus and at peace, so she was then at peace. She concluded her story by saying, "I had assumed you could not be saved once you died. I suggest that anyone who is under the same assumption I was to not give up their prayer vigil. We now own all the books in this Star Wars series by Jeffrey Brown. This one may be my favorite of them all. It introduces a bunch of characters not in the previous books. The idea of young Luke and Leia romping about and frustrating their loving dad, Darth Vadar, is a fun alternate timeline to the Star Wars saga...I mean, what if Darth was in charge of taking care of his young ones? So very cute and my 4 year old daughter LOVES these books!!!

This little book is great, perfect for a family of Star Wars fans. The character references are so fun and hilarious! I enjoy it just as much as my little ones do. We love the illustrations and it's a great length for a quick bedtime read.

This has been a long-time favorite of my 2.5 year-old son. We love all things Star Wars, and this is a cute, clever book hitting on a lot of the major characters/elements/locations from all of the movies. He has memorized a good portion of it and recognizes the characters when he sees them in the movies and in other products (stickers, decorations, etc.). And most nights when I say, "Good night, sleep tight," he responds with, "Don't let the space slug bite!" And it's adorable.

I used this as a bedtime story for 5 and 8 year old nephews. The 8 year old and I took turns at reading the pages while the 5 year old listened intently. Both of the boys liked the story (even though it really didn't correlate exactly with the Star Wars Trilogies' story line) and the 8 year old really liked reading it out loud. It has both narration as well as dialog, so he liked switching between the two.These kids know Star Wars inside and out, so we spoke about the numerous Star Wars characters in the book as we went along.

I bought this for my 4 1/2 year old son. We love the illustrations and it’s definitely a fun book to look at. Each page is a different illustration with a caption, so it is not a story book that you just sit down and read for a bedtime story.

unless your kid knows starwars, they will find it hard to follow this book. its kind of all over the place, story jumps and does wierd things, i found it funny, but my kid just didnt understand why the bad guy was being good. or why it was so different from the movie.

My son is a fan of Mr. Brown's Star Wars series. This is a creative take on Star Wars, As a fan of the series, I love the references to the different movies and as a parent, I see the humor in the scenes. The book does not flow in a story format, but feels more like a collection of comics on a similar theme.It is a fun book.

This was a present for a friend of mine who had a baby. They love Star Wars, I love Star Wars. It is a home run. A slam dunk. This is something a little more interesting (or personal to the reader) that can be read to a baby who doesn't know language yet. You get the drift? Awesome product, well written. Jeffrey Brown has a couple of these, and they are all good.

These are the best books. This one reads like an actual story, where the others are more like far side comics.

This book is quite possibly one of the most important things I have come across in my personal life. It was extremely approachable and answered a ton of questions I had kicking around in my head for years that made me feel extreme amounts of shame and self hatred. Pornography use is an insanely touchy concept in life, and this book covers a wide range of topics and questions to help men like myself better understand themselves. If you have questions about porn use in your own life or you cannot come to terms with someone in your life who uses porn, you really need to do yourself a favor and read this. It will probably make you feel an extraordinary amount of relief and allow you to enjoy your sexuality versus being slowly destroyed by it.

Lots of people watch porn, but even if they admit it, it's often with guilt and shame. This book says, "Sexual pleasure is good, and watching porn can be part of sexual fulfillment -- it can be good!" From that perspective, Ley can then analyze false allegations made against porn, along with some true challenges and difficulties, showing how most can be successfully navigated. And he can argue how much that is laid at porn's door should actually be laid at the feet of the person's own life choices and their own pre-existing unease with their own sexuality. If you don't think there is any possible positive value in porn, then of course all those challenges will just strengthen your case that no one should ever look at it. If you start with the idea that it can be good, then everything looks different. There's much practical advice here for how to navigate all those difficulties. I highly recommend it.

Dr. David Ley is a top authority on sex and porn. Although this book is written to men, women should read it too, and they should discuss it with the men in their lives--their lovers and their kids, etc. I am an AASECT certified sex therapist, and I nodded "yes!" to myself as I read the book. Dr. Ley's observations certainly are supported from my experience as a therapist, and as a man. He is correct in stating that porn is not a public health crisis, and it is not porn--but the way people view and use it--that sometimes causes problems in relationships and with individuals. Porn is a paper tiger, not a raging menace!As a society, we blame porn for just about anything we do not like. We call it an addiction and a disease, but it is neither! Dr. Ley rightly identifies t he anti-porn movement as a dangerously inaccurate phenomenon which does damage to real people--to porn actors and to those who enjoy viewing porn.Dr. Ley argues--and I agree--that some porn is well done, and some is not, but the real answer is not to censor porn.The real answer is to make better porn where all porn actors are treated well by porn producers, and by consumer. Ethical, responsible porn is the goal. Dr. Ley is not a drumbeating maniac contending that we all should immerse ourselves in porn for hours at a time. To the contrary, he contends that porn need not be hidden and covered with guilt and shame. Instead, porn can and should be a springboard to healthy discussion with our lovers. Such discussion goes a long way to improving our sexual satisfaction. Masturbation is healthy, and so is partner sex. They are not at odds. This does not mean we always need porn to conjure an arousing fantasy. We also need to use our own erotic imaginations.Dr. Ley is clear and direct. He uses interesting illustrations from years gone by to show that porn and explicit images did not start with the Internet. He acknowledges feminist porn, and he includes a Foreword by Tristan Taormino, a feminist pornographer. He also features an insightful Afterword by a real porn star, Chanel Preston. Finally, he is evidence based, and he includes sex research and information about sex researchers who have delved into porn.This book should be used by sex therapists to help clients deal better with sex and porn. Highly recommended!

I'm a psychotherapist and sex therapist. This is a great book! I have so many books I want to read. I start reading one, read about a 1/3 of it and then "forget" to pick it back up. With this book, I read it in a few days! It's a quick, fun, informative read. It's helpful for addressing the shame that may go with pornography use while increasing the responsibility associated with it. Even though it's written for men, I think all genders can benefit from reading this. I will recommend this to my friends and clients!

Excellent work on a complicated subject! Dr. Ley uses humor to break the ice, and simplifies the complex psychology of the topic. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about themselves and their sexuality.

Before reading this book I had fallen into a pattern in recent months of beating myself up for giving in to the urge to masturbate twice a day, and using all kinds of non-productive tactics in an attempt to phase it out of my life. After reading Ethical Porn For Dicks I feel like I can finally channel my desire for self-improvement into the areas of my life that need it, and not lose all faith in myself just for having an orgasm. The advice is very practical, and doesn't just tell you what you want to hear - it offers actual solutions. The writing is very compassionate and I hope it continues to help the many people who need it, instead of listening to unhelpful shame tactics
