The problem with this book is its author. Robert Hatem, who goes by his nom de guerre Cobra, was once member of one of the many warring Lebanese tribal mafias who - along with his former boss and warlord Elie Hobeika - committed the worst of acts during the Lebanese civil war. When Cobra fell out with his boss, he wrote this book which looks more like a book of confession and repentance.Now since Cobra is no writer, and since whoever took down his memoirs wrote them in bad unpunctuated English with wrong dates and spelling, the book should not be treated as a reference in its domain.True that the author has been a witness to most of the events that he cites, yet an undermining tone in this book makes it sound like cheap propaganda in which Cobra tries often to provoke his Christian compatriots by claiming that the reason for his breakup with his master was because Hobeika had abandoned the "Christian cause" in Lebanon.Now why did Cobra breakup with Hobeika more than a decade after Hobeika's betrayal in 1985 is a case in point and undermines the credibility of the author. Perhaps, the breakup was nothing more than one of the many mafia style breakups that took place among the Lebanese warlords and their gangs. Hobeika himself was killed in 2002.Cobra's book was banned in Lebanon. It contains a host of names and details of corruption and fraud from behind the Lebanese political mafia scenes. Whether Cobra's claims can be verified or not is hard to determine. However, his account should be taken as one point of view on these issues.

The book is written in poor English.When you access it to grasp the head of its principles, you will soon be disappointed to discover you have only the feet.Living the episodes described in this book was more electrifying.The author has waved before our dazzled eyes `events couched in blood' and you can never appreciate their importance or understand the meanings of their contents unless you have actually lived the profound effect of such eventualities to the limit, up to the extremes of human endurance.Internecine fighting in the Lebanon has indeed been sad, futile, and mutually destructive.Much of it (not all) was based on the dogmatic judgement of what the strategy of `fight'- between bothers - was all about ...... determined to march against the `enemy' without hesitation..... but!!! Which enemy???The interests of Lebanon was occasionally forgotten, abandoned, discarded and the irony of the matter is that everyone thought , by fierceness and ferocity, they were virtually preserving Lebanon's interests

When I first heard about this book way back in late 1999, it was already banned in Lebanon. I then could read the book online at [...] for free, before the site's IP was also banned for over 2 years by the country's ISP's - upon the government's request. The site then completely disappeared.Anyway, this book definitely posed great threat to many known players in the Lebanese political scene, and even some of the most powerful Syrian and Israeli figures. No doubt Cobra handled Elie Hobeika's (aka H.K.) dirty work, and many believe his accounts of the events during his being H.K.'s 'shadow' are sadly true...Although Cobra expresses remorse on so many occasions, but it's hardly believable. If he had remained his boss' dog, would he have went public with his story? This book is nothing but sour grapes, the information it contains is unreliable and you can hardly call it a biography.If you are able to ignore the bad grammar and spelling mistakes, this book is a good read when keeping in mind that the author contributed to and witnessed the Lebanese war's greatest atrocities.I gave this book 2 stars, only for the interesting information it contains although unfounded and extremely subjective...

People looking at the rating I've given this book will quickly label me as a fanatic Lebanese Christian. Be that as it may, I for one have made researching an author's background a habit of mine before I read any book. That way, I get to piece together a certain picture in my head concerning the content of a book, since the author's character greatly affects his writings. In the case of Robert hatem, aka "cobra", that wasn't necessary. I've been unfortunate enough to have made the acquaintance of cobra on many an occasion prior to his infamous book publishing. I feel it is my duty to give you, the potential buyer of this "book", a brief historical background on the author. Cobra is an illiterate man, who was picked off of the streets by the deceased elie hobeika, trained to become both a fighter and a bodyguard to elie hobeika who was appointed head of the Lebanese Forces' intelligence service in 1980. From the first day Robert hatem was recruited by elie hobeika, he was on the payroll. Not only that, but elie hobeika entrusted cobra with the task of protecting his family, and cobra was even allowed to sleep in the hobeika household! one day, cobra was given a mission; to kidnap a millionaire by the name of roger tamraz. Roger tamraz is by far, hands down, the Webster's dictionary definition of human filth. robert baer mentions tamraz in his book "see no evil". You can always refer back to that. back to cobra. after his release, tamraz made a deal with cobra. as it were, cobra wasn't too happy with the fat paycheck and the security his master was protecting him, so tamraz persuaded cobra to write a book that would scandalize and besmirch elie hobeika's name. But robert hatem did a lot worse than that; he mentioned the names of many decent ladies of high stature in the Lebanese society, saying that elie hobeika had had numerous affairs with them. Countless families were torn apart by this monstrosity. But it doesn't stop there; tamraz wasn't the only one who financed the book, amine gemayel, former president of the Lebanese republic(by virtue of his brother, the late president bachir gemayel) was the arch-enemy of elie hobeika. the latter's popularity and power was growing, and amine gemayel, a thief and a scoundrel if Lebanon had ever known one, wanted to put an end to his rival's popularity. To sum it all up, this book is a biased, completely untruthful, and low attempt at documenting the biography of elie hobeika and his involvement in the Lebanese war. it is a story of the maronite christians' struggle to displace any potential rivals to power.

I'm a nut for these kinds of books - not because I think the end of the world is coming any time soon, but simply because I love seeing how much I can do for myself, and books like these provide a great means of facilitating that.LOVED the specific instructions on canning, including canning meats. That's a bit of a lost art, and its inclusion here was great!The main reason I didn't give the book five stars was the fact that they didn't go into the same level of detail where energy systems were concerned. It's possible to create your own solar panels and wind turbines, and these would have been HUGE additions to the book, IMO. Likewise, I'd have love to see some sourcing - ie, where you can go to get killer deals on solar panels with blemishes (no change in output, but you can typically buy for fifty cents on the dollar). All in all though, this is a great primer for someone who's interested in the topic but doesn't quite know where to start.

This was a great read. I appreciate the list of foods to have on hand for one yr per person. It was also good to know how to garden with results. Thanks

This book should be every survivalist’s bible. From short-term survival needs to long=term survival essentials this book covers it all. There are many great ideas on how to create shelter whether you are surviving a hurricane or the nuclear holocaust. From expert ideas on how to stockpile and can food to raising the appropriate livestock these tips are sure to keep you alive even in the toughest of conditions. There are also many great ideas that can be used in everyday living, not just in a survivalist environment. There are also great ideas on long-term energy needs using anything from solar to biomass energy. There are many great ideas on how to protect yourself and your family when faced with a bio or a natural disaster. Even if you have never considered living off the grid, you owe to yourself to read this book to learn how to survive through just about any disaster.

Please note this is only 20 pages long of information and is a basic outline of things not a handbook of any kind.

This book covers a lot of stuff that I didn't realize should be covered and is the best book I have read on the topic. From a woman's perspective, ladies, this book can help you understand even more what the guys are talking about, and make you an invaluable member of any group or team.

I don't consider myself a prepper, but you never know when we'll have an earthquake or a wildfire here in southern California. I learned a few things that I can do easily and cheaply, and that gives me peace of mind.

About the Author

Matthew Wood, a practicing herbalist for more than twenty-five years, lives on an herb farm west of downtown Minneapolis. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and holds a Master of Science degree in Herbal Medicine from the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine, accredited by the University of Wales. Wood is the author of five previous books (all published by North Atlantic Books) and a registered herbalist, or professional member, of the American Herbalists Guild, the only self-regulating body of practicing herbalists in the United States. This book has information on so many different herbs and plants. It contains not only good information but good historical data as well. I am so glad I added this to my herbal library. Matthew Wood is an excellent author who gives you useable information that is very valuable.

The both earthwise herbals are highly original.The common things are mentioned, known to most of us working in this field , but one top of that: knowledge which can only come from a very experienced herbalist with a strong intuition as well.It is "mood-raising" to read the writers description of all the extra characteristics of many herbs, which one will probably find know where, at least not in such a clear and practical description.I will take years to find out if all the "specific indications" described/collected by the writer will work in one's own practise as well,if applied properly, but is seems to me worth every effort.So much more then the "materialistic" German commission E composition on herbs [nothing wrong with that]Highly recommended even if one is not working with herbs but just wants to know some of the beauty or our creation.

I really like this book. I study tcm and really like how he puts Western herbs in the energetic system. The other books are great too, the New world and theThe Practice of Traditional Western Herbalism:... Can't stop reading them!

From reading this book ( which now is my reference from now on) it is obvious hard work on research from past books, even years of 1700 has put forward by the knowledgable author . I was skeptical on few things like calendula working on infection, tried some of its cream on my son's bike wound, it worked better than topical antibiotics. As far as few eccentric reports on Betonica ( I won't spoil it for you but it had information on " treating people with unwanted Alien abduction!") , that actually shows the fearless nature of author which I liked. He just reported it as is without fear from scientific community. Very often authors throw away good anectodal reports that actually were useful due to this fear but I didn't see that here. There could be patients with PTSD for example that could benefit from this data.Thank you Master Wood you have done a life time work!DT

Bought this for my mother and she loves it! She always references this when she's looking to create some sort of medicinal concoction that's a healthy alternative. She is very into alternative medicine and she really likes this book.She would recommend this book and would buy it again!

Simply beautiful!A feeling that one can trust the experience of the writer and try it out...........Not just Western "laboratory proven compounds" ,but life as it is with pearls hardly showing up in any other herbal.Added in April 2012:As I wrote already: worth trying out all the pearls brought by the writer.As the book is now available as Kindle one can easily search in both books edited by the writer.I wrote Amazon to consider to improve the already nice search function of books offered by Kindle. [I have only Kindle om my PC]Being able to search as a PDF [and even to combine books as a PDF] would tremendously increase the efficiency of using study books in all fields and I can assure Amazon: it would tremendously increase the sale of study books by the company in my opinion[suppose the company is interested............]This PDF possibility [with full protection for Amazon so that the books can't be "forwarded"]should not be too difficult technically , I would think.Let's hope!

Chocked full of information, including scientific information, details, and experiences not found anywhere else, no herbalist should be without them. Having already purchased The Complete Guide to the Old World Medicinal Plants, I pre-ordered its New World Sister companion and waited months for its availability, And it was worth the wait!

Excellent book. I have found why Matthew Wood is well known, referenced, sought after healer. I would find it amazing to just sit with him for one day watching him heal those who came to him. I am a CMH but he goes beyond that and it is in this book. It is easy to follow, makes sense, has you saying "I would never have thought of that." and is just an enjoyable book to read, if you like herbs that is. Have been buying all his books and will buy whatever he puts out.

There is a great amount of information packed in this book. The problem is finding it. The index in this book is lacking. I have The Book of Herbal Wisdom by Wood: The Book of Herbal Wisdom: Using Plants as Medicines and the index is much better.If you dont have any books by Wood I recommend Herbal Wisdom over this book, especially if you are learning about herbs.Another book I like a lot, has a lot of recipes, and has a good index is: The Way of Herbs: Fully Updated with the Latest Developments in Herbal Science

After much researching for the perfect devotional book, I love Amy Welborn's book!! Each day begins with a bible passage, a short story which goes along with the verse, followed by a short prayer. It can be used year after year. I would definitely recommend this book.

I have just started this devotional, but I truly love it! I love her short little stories and her short prayer at the end. I want to pray the prayers for myself. I totally recommend the book.

There is no emotions or feeling in this book. It's a quick summary of the facts around a relationship that develops to endless all consuming love after 24 hours.I would not recommend this to anyone and regret spending money on this.

This is a sweetly written story about time travel and life in Walt medival Scotland! Interesting storylines with no graphic

The 1st book in this series was so-so, good plot but lacking in many ways. This was a big improvement. Descriptions of the physical beauty of the highlands, the characters and their emotions, and the interactions between books 1 and 2 were more like the author I have been following for sometime. The middle of the book was off again, a bit slapped together, but it did come back to life. I'll see what the next book is like.

Honestly, the book was just terrible. Terrible dialogue, terrible plot...it was just bad. I normally give at least two stars...but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. It had such potential, the synopsis sounded so intriguing, but it didn’t live up to its promise. I’m sorry, but it was just bad! I love to read historical romances and especially time travel ones, but I just couldn’t get on board with the story. No explanations for anything, she tells basically everyone she meets she’s from the future, and do you know how they react?! “Oh, ok.” Will not read anything else by this author and would definitely not recommend to anyone.

I chose this rating because I thought it was a bit strange. Things happened that were just to off the wall. Unbelievable. Unrealistic. Too made up even for Fiction. There was real chemistry between the two main characters but that was it.

This is a terrible excuse of a time-travel romance. The H believed the h the first time she said she was from the future. C'mon! They were suddenly "in love" after so short a time and didn't even know each other. All is too quick and I soon lost interest.

I loved it!Kerry lived in 2008 and she just got out of an abusive relationship. Her mom sends her to visit the castle of Callum MacCleod. She has read the book "The Saga of Callum MacCleod" many times over. When she was younger she had dreams about who she thought Callum might look like.Her ex, Edward finds her and somehow she makes it to the past to the year 1190.Callum's parents have arranged for him to marry Nessa McKay. Their clans are enemies and the marriage is part of a peace treaty. Callum doesn't want a wife and definitely not a McKay.When Kerry is found and mistaken as Nessa things go sideways. What happens when the real Nessa shows up? What happens when Edward makes an appearance? There are several twists involving things from the future.If you love Highlanders, Scotland, time travel, mystery and happy ever afters, then this book is for you. This is a clean romance that focuses on the story of the relationship that forms between people who have led completely different lives but can find love in trying circumstances.I recommend this book for anyone who loves the romance genre!
