I was required to purchase this book for an end of life class for my masters program in social work. I learned a great deal from it and keep it as a reference for my practice. However picky this may seem I must comment on the format of the book - it's small size and print size. I struggle to find a comfortable way to read this book. It is very heavy and small, can't be easily held up and the print is too small to lay it down to read. My shoulders and wrists ached from wrestling with the book during my coursework, and when I revisit it from time to time I am reminded of this problem. Such a helpful book. Such an oversight on the authors/publishers part. Still worth the struggle to gain the wisdom contained within, but please make a change when you reprint it!

If you are interested in end-of-life care as a profession, this book is amazing. It is very insightful and full of valuable perspectives and information.

This is not a review of the book, which is a classic. It is a review of this edition, which has been put out on Amazon's self-publishing format CreateSpace. The thing that one does not know when purchasing this book is that each page consists of a double column of text. (See photo.) Maybe some people like this, but I don't. The lines of type are too long to be newspaper style but too short to be the length of a line of type in a normal book. I don't really like reading a book like this, thus the low rating. ps I also think it is deceptive of the publisher to not show any of these pages in the "Look Inside" sample that Amazon provides. pps The translator is not named. Seems unprofessional.

A few typos aside, I do not regret for a single minute taking the time to slowly read this book, and think about it. The chapters are very short and numerous, and it is easy to read a little bit at a time. Gandhi has an easy and friendly way of speaking to the reader, and I found myself admiring the memory he displayed, as well as the moral principles he strove to uphold. He is also able to inject a very light touch of humor into the description of some very difficult situations. Before reading this book, I would not have guessed that he had tried to commit suicide as a young man (by taking poisonous seeds), and I was thankful for the frankness with which he expresses his trials and flaws. He called his delving into many aspects of life an "experiment", and he succeeded in making a positive difference on so many lives.

First, I would like to say how much I admire Gandhi. I think he was one of the greatest men of the 20th Century.But, this book was just plain hard to read. The style was more like reading legislation than reading a life story. That probably makes sense, given Gandhi's educational training. This style might work for a short, thoughtful treatise on a specific topic. But, 500+ pages in this style was just too much.I finally did get through the book. I would like to say that it was worth it, to get to know Gandhi better. And, that might be true if this book was the only way to get to know Gandhi, but it's not. There are many other sources to learn about him. I think it would be better to chose one of the others.

This book ends just as Gandhi's life was getting interesting. In the Final chapter he says that there's no reason to discuss the last seven years because the facts are so well-known. Well they aren't well-known to me and frankly that's why I bought this book, to learn from his own hand about the events that ended British rule in India. There is absolutely nothing in this book about that. However I can tell you how difficult it is to find a loom and a splinter and that Gandhi insisted that his robe be 45 cm wide. Honestly it's a lot of discussion of who was in which meeting at which time while he was a lawyer in south Africa and very little about his civil rights fighting especially given the length of the book. If you're interested in Gandhi's leadership of the civil rights and national rights movements in India I'm sure there are much better sources . I would say that about once every 10 pages I found a couple of sentences that were interesting regarding his views on ahimsa but that's about it. Obviously he is one of the great figures in modern society but this book does not really support that or show why .

I have been wanting to read about Gandhi for some time and I noticed this on the Kindle list and started reading it.He has written this in an easily read form and it is mostly as if he is talking to the reader.He covers his life as he saw it and provides the reader with insight as to what moved him to his life of serving.I never knew that he got his start in serving in South Africa.I think this should be required reading for students as it is a wonderful book and not slanted by anyone other than Gandhi himself.I highly recommend it.

Gandhi's story was a bit long-winded, and he talked so self-righteously about himself at times to the point of annoying-ness...some things he talked about (i.e. his diet) I found quite irrelevant. It was interesting to read that he was married at a very young age - I never knew that, and the complexities of that marriage made him seem more real. There were points where I almost felt he looked down on black South Africans, like it was wrong for white South-Africans to treat Indians poorly, but a totally different story all together with how they treated Black people (i.e. one night he was taking a walk down a South African road and was berated by a white man. One of Gandhi's white friends caught this and got mad at the white man for berating Gandhi. Gandhi said something to the effect of 'Oh forgive him, he just thought I was a black man') - this is paraphrased, but you get the just of it.Still, his determination and fight for Indians to be treated equally was inspirational. His peaceful protests are what eventually inspired Martin Luther King and, to a point, Nelson Mandela, fight for the rights of blacks in America (King) and South Africa (Mandela). So for that, and for refusing to accept the racist status quo for his people, Gandhi was an inspiration.

I've always kept a written journal, but never thought of being creative with them until I saw this book on display at a bookstore. I've sinced thumbed through many other similar books (including Perrella's) and Deihn's are more instructive and interesting. I bought this book before I discovered her other one (specifically for Journaling); I'd recommend the latter if you don't do scrapbooks.She covers dry and wet processes, cutouts, copier transfers, design layout suggestions, altering book coverers, watercolor/gouache/stamping, and more. There's lots of examples for inspiration. This book is pretty complete.

I love this book! I first checked it out at the local library because I was taking an art class and looking for inspiration. I found it here. I was sharing this library book with my BFF, and she insisted on buying it for me. <3. The illustrations are clear and the narrative is wonderful - I feel as if she was speaking directly to me. I was actually moved to tears when I read about her finding the tree cut down (her first journal subject for a biology class). I highly recommend this book to anyone thinking about journaling or learning about collage/assemblage. It inspired me to action, after "thinking about it" for years.

In truth, I'd have to say the proper guidance in anything we are learning will make the learning of the skill awesome, and Gwen Diehn is an awesome guide! If you really want the guidance in creating an art journal, Gwen's book is the one for you; covering everything from tools of the trade to how to plan a page to making each page of your journal as unique as you are. I really can't express in words just how helpful this guidebook has been to me. My own art journals are vastly improved by the multitude of ideas for journal pages Gwen provides in her well-written book 'The Decorated Page'. The only problem I found with the book was it inspired me to create a new decorated page with nearly every paragraph I read! Due to this fact, it took me quite awhile to actually read this whole book. Obviously, I highly recommend this it! If I were going to buy only one book on the subject of art journals, Gwen Diehn's 'The Decorated Page' is the one I'd want.

Diehn provides expert guidance on the tools that are "must haves" and how to acquire these items without spending a fortune. The best part about Gwen Diehn's approach is that she does not advocate simply buying pre-made scrap booking materials and gluing them on a page, but rather taking a few basic supplies, learning how to use them, and creating your own vision in your journal. This book is a "must have"!

I came to THE DECORATED PAGE as a text-centric journal-keeper who rarely added anything else, and that would be nothing much more than gluing in a comic strip, artifact or article relative to the content of an entry. I was leery of a book with this title: what mattered was the text, so why decorate extraneously for decoration sake? This is a fine companion volume to the author's other book, THE DECORATED JOURNAL. Both are good for beginner or more advanced journal keepers and artists.What Diehn has to say is, other media can augment the meaning of the text with mood, highlighting and/or explicit illustration. She recounts her own revelation while keeping a scientific nature observation journal for a college course, and it was that story that woke me up. I'm not breaking my allegiance to text, and I am not decorating for the sake of decorating, but when I record the time of sunrise, for instance, I first lay some streaks of color that record the visual impact of it and write atop the streaks, and when I include a bulleted list or a tide chart, I set it off on a color block. It's a start and I thank Diehn for the encouragement.

I teach journaling classes, and I took this book in with me to share with the students. They were mesmerized by the wonderful photographs, excited by the creative ideas, and inspired to try new directions by combining text and image in their own journals. In a 2-hr class, the entire time was spent with this book, in a page-by-page focus and note-taking. It's not a "big" book, but it's packed with wonderful suggestions and techniques which any journaler would itch to try! There are also variations on standard formats, such as Japanese stab bindings, page layouts using grids and mandelas, techniques for cut-outs and add-ons, and samples and how-to-do-it sections. And it's all in wonderful color.

After the grief subsides and the partners clothes are packed away, should you wish for another chance at love, you'll probably need to wade or dive into the dating pool. If you, like me, fear the alligators and sharks,or even the slugs, this is a great book to realistically paint the landscape while offering hope.It would have gotten a 5 If there were discussion questions because I want to introduce this book to a mixed book discussion group as a way of launching a Turning Single group discussion.Anyway, read it along the way, as you would a drink a delightful sparkling wine on a hot day. I've been widowed twice now, once in my early 30s and the second time in my late 50s, both devastating losses of wonderful men. My second husband was not only my lover and dearest friend, but also my partner in a company we started up and ran together for 16 years. Then he developed Alzheimer's, and during his 7-year battle with the disease, I had to choose between caring for him at home until the end, versus the company and my career. That was a no-brainer. Sooooo... now that he is gone and I'm beginning to think about trying to climb out of the depths, I started looking for advice for widows on how to figure out what to do after such life-altering losses. I purchased several books that promised to do that.Frankly, at this point, I have zero interest in another relationship. But the title of this book tickled me, and the reviews intrigued me, so I bought it on a whim. And it's done far more for me than the "for widows only" books. It isn't a dating guide, it's a guide to looking into your own heart and soul and discovering who you really are ... or would like to be. It is, as others have said, very well-written, easy to read, thought-provoking, and wise.

After my husband of 37 years died, I was very confused about how this part of the social contract works these days. Swiping right and left isn't exactly me. The title is an eye-grabber, and not really what the book is about. This book gave me permission not to worry about swiping, or anything else. Being me is more important, and there's room for growth and as much experimentation as I want -- when I want it. The book is more about relaxing and having hope for a freer future, with tips on how to achieve that, whatever that means to you. Highly recommended for people who haven't thought about such things in a while.

As a newly single woman, I found much of this book informative and helpful.After a 18 year marriage, and a 5 year long term relationship, I suddenly, and reluctantly, found myself out in the singles world again. Even as I was becoming more stable in my new role as a single person, I was still hesitant about "getting out there" again. The thought of meeting someone new was scary, and uncomfortable.The information in this book helped me look at my future relationship(s) in a different light. I am not quite as scared, and even a bit excited...some days.I came across this book in the Recommended Reading section of "Get Over the Guilt" by Macy Kayne. "Get Over the Guilt", as well as some of the other books Ms. Kayne recommends were very helpful for me.

The information is helpful, but it is definitely aimed at a much older divorcee or widow. As a 30-something divorcee with no children, who is the one who initiated the divorce, I found much of the information to be fairly mundane. By and large it seems like it was written of a woman who more or less gave up her independence and identity for her family. While there certainly was some helpful information and guidance, very little of it was earth shattering or particularly relevant for me.

WOW! Nicely done. Getting Naked Again is not just about the fear we have of "getting naked again", it's so much more. It is for the divorcee, the widow/widower, the gay man who can't seem to find the right guy, the forever single woman who can't seem to find the right guy. It reads for all of us who want love and are seemingly searching in the wrong places, or not searching at all. I don't normally order a book like this, but I was feeling desperate. I'm so glad I did! I'm sending it to my ever beautiful, high maintenance friend, who just became single, and to my gay guy friend who is so handsome, yet believes that he is destined to live life alone. I am also sending it to my beautiful friend whose husband passed away unexpectedly last fall. This book is good for our lonely souls. This book has a great amount of depth. Getting Naked Again keeps you interested with the dialog and is filled with so much more than I ever expected. It is written professionally and from the heart.

I talked to many people I knew about various chapters of this book. When I told them the title, they were a bit skeptical. It does cover physical intimacy but it is much, much more about being vulnerable and re-aquiring an attitude of hope when it comes to relationships.Some of the ideas were familiar to me but was explained in a more in-depth complete way than other books. It is easy to read, thought-provoking and very useful. I passed it on yesterday to my mom to read since she lost her husband last year.

After a long tern, marriage the thought of getting naked with a stranger was unthinkable. Low self esteem, and poor body image adds to the scary thought of a new relationship and how to go about it. I found this funny and enlightening, and while it hasn't happened yet I am better prepared if it does.

I am an experienced LRCC and PS user but the programs are so complex that I need a periodic refresher. This book fit the bill nicely. I bought the ebook version, loaded it into my ipad and I propped the reader in front of me while I did the exercises on my computer. I find this arrangement much easier than trying to maneuver a large paper volume with one hand and working the computer with the other. Most of the exercises are well thought out and were easy to follow but I'm not sure I would recommend this to a beginner.

Now that Adobe offers the Creative Cloud Photography Plan, which includes a monthly subscription to both Photoshop and Lightroom, for under $10 a month, many photographers are wondering how to fit these two programs together for the best possible images. The two can be integrated so that each does what it can do best. Lightroom is great for global adjustments (as well as other functions like cataloging and slide shows) while Photoshop allows combining images, local adjustments and retouching. After discussing the benefits of using both Lightroom and Photoshop, the author considers some of the basic functions of the Library and Develop modules of Lightroom. She then discusses the roundtrip workflow from Lightroom to Photoshop and back again. Snider then provides deeper instruction on moving Lightroom processed images to Photoshop for combining, selecting and masking, retouching and special effects. She finishes by indicating how to export images and very briefly touches on the other Lightroom modules.The book uses tutorials that involve the downloading of images from a website and then detailed instructions for processing the images, first in Lightroom and then in Photoshop. This is one of the most practical ways to learn the functioning of the software and the author makes it better by explaining the why of the various steps, as well as the pitfalls along the way.At first I was skeptical about the instruction level. For Lightroom, only the most rudimentary of instructions are given about the Development module, and indeed, if one wants to learn to learn to adjust tonality and color well in Lightroom, one ought to read books like Scott Kelby's The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter) and Jeff Schewe's The Digital Negative: Raw Image Processing in Lightroom, Camera Raw, and Photoshop (2nd Edition). On the other hand, I was surprised to see strong advocacy for the Pen tool and no mention of the Lasso tool.
