The problem is that I don't have the time to sit down and read it cover to cover and get frustrated trying to find what I'm trying to do on excel in the book so I've just been googling the particular task I need and it seems to be working just as well. In other words, if you have the time to sit down and read it's probably a great book, but for me right now as I'm trying to learn excel on a very limited schedule, the internet is working just as well.

You can not make out the charts, diagrams, illustrations in the E-Book.This is not very helpful, when you are teaching yourself Excel. The hard copy would be better.

The examples given were complex. Even things I knew how to do were hard to follow.I've bought many 'Dummies' books over the years, but after this I may not buy another.

This certainly is what it claims to be. The problem is that I don't have the time to sit down and read it cover to cover and get frustrated trying to find what I'm trying to do on excel in the book so I've just been googling the particular task I need and it seems to be working just as well. In other words, if you have the time to sit down and read it's probably a great book, but for me right now as I'm trying to learn excel on a very limited schedule, the internet is working just as well.

I got the Kindle addition thinking I could use my laptop, while using Excel on my desktop. You can not make out the charts, diagrams, illustrations in the E-Book.This is not very helpful, when you are teaching yourself Excel. The hard copy would be better.

I have worked with Excel for years and wanted something to help me with the more difficult processes - lookup, pivot tables etc. I found this book impossible to follow. The examples given were complex. Even things I knew how to do were hard to follow.I've bought many 'Dummies' books over the years, but after this I may not buy another.

Just getting in to this book. I'm finding it useful so far to help me get through some Excel 2010 set-backs that I have been having.

The book was ok, but it did not really explain the 'how to', which was what I needed.

Good book. Just haven't had the time to really go through it. However, the few pages that I looked at were very helpful. I would recommend this to anyone who uses Excel more than the average person.

Good book, although like most Microsoft guides it gives you a couple different ways to do the same thing. I guess that's a program thing, but I would find it most useful if they just told me one way to do something.

This book was purchased for my daughter who is a mothman fanatic. She loved the book. I asked her if she would recommend it and her response was that she would because the man who wrote the book spent much time in Point Pleasant and knew what he was talking about. He spent years in WV where Mothman was first sighted and took notes from witnesses, did his own research, and compiled it into the book.

My collection is complete! I have a hard to find 1975 copy (1st edition) hardcover, in fact the man that sold it to me has asked me at least three times if I would be interested in selling it back to him!!! When the movie (I also have a copy) came out I picked up a copy of the Tor paperback edition. It has an afterword from author John Keel that did not appear in the first edition. This is the rare Illuminett Press edition with the green Frank Frazetta cover. I had a chance to get a copy for about $12.00 back around 2000, but I didn't do it because I thought it was a relitively new edition, it was only later I found out how rare and hard to find this edition was! I have only seen it on Amazon over the last two or three years and prices have varied from around $50.00 to around $20.00, often much higher. This too carries an afterword by the author that is apparently different from the more recent paperback edition. There are more recent editions, but I don't think they are anything but the most recent printing of a classic on ufology and the unexplained. A must have if you are truly interested in the subject.

John Keel was a reporter and he writes like it is the best fiction ever. Or is it fact? The movie was okay, but it is better to read the book first. And his other books too. Even Jadoo, his first before he delved into this thing much deeper. He does not want to believe, no one should. Hard nosed search for the truth of it.This isn't a small subject, and it is quite complex. When asked about the whole thing Keel would say "read about demonology" or even "angelology" but in a circle you can start anywhere within it or on its edge. It is vast, it is layered and it covers many areas from human behavior to mythology. Whatever this is it can generate solid matter temporarily then vanish without a trace like those Men In Black with dark pointed "Oriental" faces and abnormally long fingers in cars that look out of place and license plates that are not listed anywhere. Though they can change over time and be any size from short to abnormally tall and broad. They or it seems to be able to read minds and is a mimic. It might even have a kind of sense of humor to it. This is the book for you if you really are interested in this.

I love all things weird and this is the book that really started all that for me. The events that took place in Point Pleasant, WV in 1966-67 have it all; strange creatures, UFO's, Men In Black, and Keel was among the first to investigate it. The result is this incredible book. It is creepy and ominous; all the while being very well-researched. It, to me, is one of only a handful of "must have" books on the shelf of any library dedicated to the strange world around us.

The Mothman Prophecies is a book by author John A. Keel which claims to tell the true story of mysterious events occurring in the eastern United States during the late 1960s. The tale is told entirely from Keel's vantage point as a first-hand investigator (and experiencer) of the paranormal happenings in question. I must say that I began reading The Mothman Prophecies with certain expectations. I had previously been exposed to the exploits of the infamous mothman by various authors in other cryptozoology texts. There was no question that this book would be the authoritative, original source material from which most other writers have since taken inspiration. I was surprised, however, at the diversity of the matter which awaited me. On the positive side, Keel is an excellent and engaging author. He writes colorfully, and offers a work that will not likely bore any of his audience. It's also nearly impossible to argue that this story isn't a "must read" for those interested in the Mothman, or any of the number of other strange incidents which Keel documents here. Having had the unique privilege of investigating and experiencing these events in person, as they were happening, the author boasts a definite authority and purity in documentation. It's obvious that The Mothman Prophecies has heavily influenced many modern researchers in various fields of the unexplained, making it an entry hard to ignore on any serious paranormalist's reading list. I must also say that, even if one were to discount its potential as a true story, the book does make a fairly good classic sci-fi page turner in its own right. Enjoyment and intrigue aside, I did develop some rather serious criticisms of The Mothman Prophecies which I feel could negatively impact some readers. As with most texts, the degree to which these cons influence your personal experience will vary. First off, Keel blatantly and repeatedly breaks one of the cardinal rules of good scientific documentation; he continuously introduces theories and opinions into his writing. The Mothman Prophecies is laced with personal interpretations of the phenomena being witnessed. In fact, something that really surprised me on several occasions, were the seamless way in which the author would offer what are essentially his beliefs as solid fact, with nary a disclaimer. It's not uncommon for paranormal investigators to attempt to draw conclusions from their works, but this goes well beyond that. Keels repeatedly debunks and downplays certain popular institutions, including UFO groups and alien visitation theories, while simultaneously replacing them with his own views. He ironically disclaims one ideology as being scientifically unsupportable, while concurrently supplanting it with his own, equally unsupported, theories. Keel regularly writes in a very matter-of-fact manner with explanations for curiosities that I do not believe have ever been accounted for scientifically, even to this day. The lack of good scientific method is also not limited to the frequent disclosure of Keel's convictions. I additionally found myself curious how someone as dedicated to investigating the paranormal as the author must have been, could still be so unprepared to gather any data other than witness statements and personal observations. Throughout the book, Keel documents a multitude of occasions where he witnessed anomalous objects and individuals, both by chance and by intent. All this time, he never mentions taking a single photograph or measurement of those in question. In one chapter, we hear how he repeatedly visits a certain hilltop at night to view a recurring colorful orb in the distance, yet he apparently never thought to take photographs, nor to simply go and wait in the location where these lights actually appeared. His lack of ability to take advantage of the seemingly ubiquitous and predictable phenomena makes the sheer legitimacy of some of the accounts suspect. Getting back to expectations, having already learned of the Mothman character from other sources, I had come into The Mothman Prophecies expecting to read an exhaustive, authoritative volume of documentation on one of my personal favorite cryptids. I was rather surprised to discover, then, that the Mothman creature really only plays a limited roll in the proceedings. This book is absolutely not the standard investigators report that one might expect to find on other monsters such as Sasquatch or Nessie. Mothman here is little more than a supporting character in a large cast of humans, weirdos, monsters, and anomalous objects. The majority of the book, particularly the latter half, is actually spent away from the Mothman, and enters into a huge variety of lights in the sky, men-in-black, UFO contactees, phone tapping, and lots of miscellaneous strangeness. In fact, Keel relates such a variety of bizarre happenings from this period in his life, that it may greatly strain ones ability to believe that the story is the least bit sane and true. The author, rather than being the normal independent observer, actually becomes the central character in what would more easily be viewed as an old school sci-fi tale, had the cover of the book not disclaimed it to be "based on a true events." My final gripe, although smaller than the aforementioned bits, is that the writing style here has a tendency to be disjointed. Characters seem to pop up in various chapters, often for only a paragraph or two at a time. It makes remembering exactly who is where and doing what across chapters more confusing than it should be, and occasionally detracts from the ability to follow the overall story. The chapters, likewise, are somewhat hit or miss. They don't seem to follow any specific convention, some based on people, others on a block of time, and still others on a specific phenomena. The chapters themselves are also subdivided into numbered sections, in a way which at times felt arbitrary and pointless. While there are no doubt multiple ways to tell a complex and chronological story of this nature, it would have been nice had the author and editors simply picked one theme and stuck with it. Ultimately, The Mothman Prophecies is an interesting work, to say the least. If you want a good paranormal story, you certainly need to look no further. Additionally, if you're in the market for a first-hand account of the origin of the Mothman or even the other paranormal events around Point Pleasant in the late 1960s, this is really a must read. On the other hand, if you're a scientifically minded individual looking for responsible investigation of the unexplained, you're likely to be disappointed by Keel's very human (and very biased) manner of recounting events, which greatly stains belief and credibility.

This is a book that has changed my life. I've read A LOT of books on how to make good new habits. I've focused on the spiritual aspect of habits, I've gone to "butt kicking" but nothing ever stuck. Things would seem to go great for a week or so, then I would either get obsessive or completely forget about the habits I was trying to create for myself.This is a fresh look, and original way, in understanding how my mind works. It makes sense to me, I understand it, and I think about what I've learned through out the day. Slow Mind versus Fast Mind, Future Self and Past Self. The exercises at the end of each chapter are new and different.That's what I love about this book. It's so original, such a different way of making new habits.

This is a must read for anyone with a strong interest in personal development. The author presents a compelling mindshift for looking at our efforts to engineer self-change from the perspective of a designer. Approaching change as a designer liberates us from the heavy burden of failed attempts to instill a given change. We just keep iterating and tinkering like any good designer. One key insight is the idea of anticipating and being prepared for relapse, as the new design battles the old design for primacy in our behavior patterns. The book may warrant multiple readings. It is at once anecdotal and filled with stories from the author's own life and those she has known. But there are strong underlying concepts as well that deserve reflection and study. I rate Well Designed Life 10/10.

Having read a lot of self improvement books, I can say that this one is one of the best. It contains a new (to me) approach to how our minds work, and how to restructure or design our lives for greater freedom and happiness. It is well organized and compelling. Having read it on Kindle, I am now going back to reread it in paperback. I felt I was underlining the whole book.I recommend this book to anyone who has tried lots of strategies to improve their daily habits, and has gotten discouraged with repeated failure. I am inspired and I think you will be too!

I liked how this author took actual brain science to explain our repetitive behaviors. It made the material more interesting and approachable to have explanations of direct links between the two. It made me feel as though the areas I would like to improve and focus upon in my life are actually fixable with a manageable plan which Dr. Bobinet helps you to put in place. I've gone on to recommend this book to several friends and it has led to many interesting conversations. If you are interested in breaking negative behaviors and habits that keep you from moving forward in your life, this book offers a helpful science based approach.

Dr. Kyra Bobinet makes neuroscience and behavior change accessible to all in an enjoyable, well-written read. A great book for anyone wanting to change their life, using personal examples and structured exercises to design change. I plan to recommend it to my patients who are struggling to stay motivated with their health and life choices. As one of her former medical school classmates, and current friend, I remain in awe of her wisdom, compassion and strengths, and her willingness to share personal examples to help others succeed in iterating behavior change.

I don't usually read self-help books - mainly because I have often felt I can't change things in my life that I would like to be different - but I read this one with hope and gratitude that at last here was a book that would be actually useful. Maybe I could design my life. I was inspired. The book is so well written and so engaging, and well grounded in science, which is very important to me. I liked the concept of iterating on your design for life, of making small changes, adjusting your plan so that it will work for you, rather than glving up, of understanding what unknown forces and triggers shape your behavior. Dr. Bobinet shows you how to plan, how to evaluate your plan, how to modify it. I am applying the lessons of this book to some health changes I always knew I should make, but designing your life well also encompasses relationships, work-related issues, personal growth and many other spheres of life. I am delighted to have found this book.

I enjoyed the balances within this book: The balance of science vs. personal real life stories; the balance of ease in reading vs. the desire to slow down and absorb, the balance of written learning vs. hands on exercises for learning; This was a motivating, powerful yet practical book that was a pleasure to read.

An Amazing Book! A fundamentally different approach to behavior change. The combination of neuroscience, meditation, mindfulness, and personal empowerment, along with practical design tools, makes this is a book you will go back and read again many, many times. The personal and engaging writing style made this one of the most enjoyable books I have read in a very long time!

If I have a favorite genre, it would be either Action-Adventure or International Crime and Conspiracy. To my line of thinking, "Long Road to Mercy" is Action-Adventure, but I noticed it was billed as International Mystery and Crime. At any rate, I knew that it would be a good story, as I always enjoy books by this author.In one sentence, I found Atlee Pine to be an authentic, Scarily Tough Heroine. "Long Road to Mercy" is a Must-Read.Mind you, though, that the early chapters in which we learn much about our heroine did give me cause for concern. Why? It seemed eerily close to Silence of the Lambs, but the character by Jody Foster was a much more physically adapted character. A character who, by the way, felt much more authentic than your typical heroine.Even though I don't think it would be a spoiler, I'm not going to explain the cause for her developing in such a direction, because that is the fresh take, early, regarding this character that makes these first few pages intriguing to read.The second half of the novel is better than the first half. In fact, some two-thirds in, this becomes a great page-turner. I enjoyed the adventure in this part almost as much as the character.BLUSH FACTOR Readers familiar with Baldacci will know that his characters are not the sort from the Wizard of Oz, so don't expect to be reading this to youngsters or with your prayer group. But, even if you have objections to the eff-word, this is a book worth reading. And, frankly, the profanity is somewhat sparing. It is used to good effect as a seasoning agent, rather than to an excess.CHARACTER: My thoughts regarding Atlee Pine - At last, a female FBI agent who feels real and is not some Charlie's Angel or a model. This character has just enough flaws to make her intriguing.POV: Third person.EXCERPT:I'm only posting the briefest possible tidbit, just so an informed judgment becomes possible.'...After losing Mercy, she had been put into counseling. As a bereaved six-year-old, she had found it confusing, scary, and, ultimately, unhelpful.Four years ago, she had tried it again. With the exact same result. She had sat in a group counseling session and had listened as the attendees went around the room discussing their most personal issues. When her turn had come, Pine, who had been shot, stabbed, and attacked multiple times in the line of duty, had started to sweat and taken the coward’s way out—she had passed on her turn and never gone back.For some reason, all of this had made her averse to possessions. She wanted to go through life with as few as possible. These included people as well. Some shrinks might interpret that as her being fearful of another significant loss. And they might not be far off the mark. But Pine had never allowed herself the time or opportunity to dig deep enough into her psyche to prove that theory true or false.She showered to take off the dirt and sweat of the Grand Canyon. She dressed in fresh clothes, sat down at her knotty pine kitchen table, which had come with the apartment and which also doubled as her home office, and checked her emails, phone messages, and texts.There was one from her direct superior out of Flagstaff. Kindle Edition.BOTTOM LINEAlthough the trip to the prison to visit the serial killer felt a little too familiar, and raises other questions in the reader's minds, it was enough different and personal enough that it was not so similar to other stories in this genre. There comes a time when one of your favourite authors stumbles because they have written so much and laboured so hard to meet the grueling annual publication timetable. This time the stumble is more like a fatal fall for me. Basically, while I really admire Baldacci's work and have given it so many stars over the years, IMHO this time he has lost the plot with a terrible plot (excuse the unintended pun).The best thing about this book was that Baldacci was brave enough to introduce another major character, after the extremely strange bunch he has created over the years. Unfortunately, a female FBI agent with near Olympic weightlifting credentials who works on her own running the smallest FBI office near the Grand Canyon is not the kind of heroine that one normally barracks for. Also, almost single-handed she walks into and tries to solve one of the most complex and unbelievable plots of international corruption. I would like to give you a sample of the plot but that spoiler would only show up the sheer stupidity of the plot.When I got more than halfway through the book I decided to plod on as the plot got more ridiculous but admit to skipping a lot to see if Baldacci could redeem himself at the end, but to no avail. I am especially concerned that a top rated reviewer said it was a must read. Maybe he lives in another universe to me (and at one time I was a Top 500 Reviewer).Baldacci has a great reputation going back beyond the days of the Coffee Club. I hope that he can take a long break and come up with something worthwhile next time.

Atlee Pine is about as believable as the Easter Bunny. This book is awful. Baldacci feels compelled to drag the reader into his political worldview. Total garbage.

I am a David Baldacci fan. I look forward to his new book releases. I pre-order my copy, mark my calendar, then devour the book the minute it drops into my library. Long Road to Mercy, with Atlee Pine, was very hard for me to get through. It finally sparked my interest at about 25% of the way through, but it took me days , not hours, to get to the finish line.The new character, Atlee Pine, and her Secretary, Carol Blum, work out of the small FBI office in Arizona. It is just the two women in this office but they are very proper with each other, pretty much knowing nothing about the other. So, there was no real chemistry during their interactions. Atlee herself was a pretty bland character. She is extremely strong, works out, lifts weights....and? I don't know. I like to get an image in my mind of the characters I read about. I just kept seeing She-Hulk, but flesh colored. I think she might have dark hair, I can't remember.Other characters introduced seemed very basic. I wasn't sure which ones were supposed to be important or vital to the story line. The setting was Arizona, the Grand Canyon, and there was road trip. It felt very 'blah'.The 'bad guys'... I wasn't really sure who they were until the end. Every character seemed to be someone Atlee shouldn't trust, but she did. I was waiting for an *Aha! " moment when they would turn on her. And it wasn't a good, suspenseful not knowing who the bad guy was. I was just confused. And people are dying and disappearing, but nobody seems to be looking for them.In the end, I just didn't feel the intrigue or suspense that I have come to expect and enjoy from Baldacci books. Something just felt off when the ending didn't feel like an ending.I gave Long Road to Mercy only 3 Stars.

Love Baldacci, read everyone of his books and have never been disappointed...this one NEVER lives up to his previous works. Heck, I should've know It was going to be bad when star of the book, FBI agent Atlee Pine is called to investigate a dead donkey in the middle of the Grand Canyon. Seemed like Baldacci was in a rush to meet his quota with the publisher and pumped out what arguably is his worst book..
